Eekk!!! Criminal background check!!! (LONG)

Since my keyboard is finally working again, I have something I need to ask about. My class is entering our last semester and suddenly we get something in the mail asking us to consent to a CRIMINAL background check. Now, I've never been arrested/convicted/etc, so I have no criminal backgroud.....BUT: when I was fresh out of high school I attended a state university for one year and earned 3 credits. I did not attend any classes, was completely overwhelmed, stressed, depressed, drunk, etc. I wanted to start fresh and knew I wanted to go into nursing. I took all my pre-reqs with all A's and now am almost done with the nursing portion (all As and Bs). I know I should have told them about my previous college but I knew no credits would be transfered and really, really wanted to start fresh. I would seriously die if they kicked me out now. The only thing I can think of is that the check is done by an outside commercial agency so I figure that they may only include relivent criminal/arrest issues and info. Someone please????? Does anyone know anything about this? Will they only look at my criminal background (none)? I honestly could not find another career, nursing is my only interest (work related).... :crying2:

Huh???

Jaime -- Don't get this. You folks weren't informed of the criminal (and, in our case, child abuse) check when you were first accepted into the program???

Thought all schools did that.

I know!!! Isn't that weird? There was something with all these airline baggage handlers in NJ/NY that were hired w/o background checks and then they found out that a lot were convicted felons....I'm not sure about the details, but some people were thinking that this is why our school is doing it now. Who knows, either way our entire class is freaked out! :chuckle
