Duke ABSN Fall 2020

Published

Hello! I figured it was time to start this thread now that the application deadline is nearly here. Let us commence the stress and commiseration!

I finally submitted my Duke ABSN application yesterday after being away from my computer for months while traveling. I feel excited and hopeful, but the reality is that I won't be able to attend without a significant scholarship. I love Duke's program and my partner lives outside of Durham (I'm currently near Tucson, AZ) so this could be the perfect fit.

Nursing will be a second career for me--I'm 34. I'm curious whether most of my fellow applicants are younger or around my age?

Good luck everyone!

So far I'm still planning on coming. My trip to the UK is also a go. Though NOW I regret doing 22-24, back to work the 25-29 with one day off thrown in and THEN I fly out. I know for a fact that if I'm sick on my UK flight I will not be allowed into Ireland or the UK. A little irritated by all the fear mongering that our borders or closed and that those of us flying internationally may be stuck in that country. I am thankful though that if that DOES happen, my best friend said I can stay until I'm allowed to come home. I take each day as it comes, but MAN if this isn't stress inducing. It's worse for me as I'm working in a hospital and IF I make it back to Florida, I still think I have to self quarantine...

Back to Duke...anyone submit their deposit yet? I'm hoping to get it all squared away next week or the following week!

Specializes in Oncology Clinical Research.

I will be giving up my spot-hope someone here will get good news regarding the waitlist!

@orneryscientistDid you make a choice on school then?

The 4 semesters mean 2 years or is it 1 year and a half as in, a Summer semester? IDK I also got accepted to Mayo Clinic health sciences surgical first assistant program, and it’s just 1 year....

It is 16 months, so 3 "traditional" semesters and 1 Summer semester. Since we are starting Fall 2020, we would graduate in December 2021.

The Mayo Clinic opportunity sounds interesting! I guess it just comes down to what scope of practice you want in your future healthcare profession. Either option is fantastic tho!

Also, I am unsure who all is officially going - but I paid my deposit on Friday. ?

anyone turned the offer down?

@garsstaI am about to pay my deposit either this week or the following. I want to pay it before I head to Duke Days. I know we are both going the same day, so look out for a redhead...that's me! I still have to turn down some other schools. I am the type of person that hates that idea because what IF in the end Duke isn't right for me, but I just know I'm looking to go to a big school with lots of stuff to do.

Has anyone else heard back from Financial Aid?

So all Duke campus events are cancelled. I'm waiting for the official word from Ben, but once o get it I'll have to hope Spirit and air bnb will give me a refund

Have they said anything about Duke Days being cancelled?

Nothing from the school of nursing but basically everything is closed at Duke. No reunion no games etc. so I assume they are trying to figure it out. All the medical events are cancelled so o assume nursing would cancel too
