Hello! I figured it was time to start this thread now that the application deadline is nearly here. Let us commence the stress and commiseration!
I finally submitted my Duke ABSN application yesterday after being away from my computer for months while traveling. I feel excited and hopeful, but the reality is that I won't be able to attend without a significant scholarship. I love Duke's program and my partner lives outside of Durham (I'm currently near Tucson, AZ) so this could be the perfect fit.
Nursing will be a second career for me--I'm 34. I'm curious whether most of my fellow applicants are younger or around my age?
Good luck everyone!

Hello! I JUST applied and finished everything this evening! I just started a new job as a Unit Secretary at my local hospital so I've been working and training night shift! Don't worry, I'm 33 and starting over. My background is acting and I realized I hated teaching Shakespeare to college students who didn't care about the subject!
I was working with adults with special needs here in Orlando and realized that I wanted to become a nurse. Duke has a great program and I hope everything I have submitted is ok!

@seacandace I also applied as a second career student and I’m 42. The age range will definitely skew older than traditional BSN programs. Best of luck!

Hello! I turned 30 a few months ago and am in the same boat regarding scholarships. From my understanding, FAFSA is unlikely to help much for a second bachelor's program (but I could be wrong). I did also submit a merit scholarship essay along with my application.
I'm applying to about 7 other programs so we'll see how everything shakes out.
Prior to pursuing nursing, I've worked in research for the last decade (first in basic science/animal work, and now in oncology clinical research).

Hello! I am 22, in my first year post-undergrad. I was initially pursuing medical school but after 3 years of volunteering and working in various healthcare jobs, I've realized that nursing is absolutely the better fit for me. I have met some amazing nurses and nurse practitioners, and they have inspired me to embrace this new path!
@Barbiegirl1229 I'm applying to:
-UVA-University of Washington-MUSC-OHSU-Rush-Hopkins-Penn
I'm currently applying to Duke, Case Western Reserve, GWU, and UMASS Amherst. May add Shenandoah University as well. Hopkins was on the list but I refuse to live in Bmore...great school, just not an area for me. And i missed deadlines for Penn and UVA. Case Western is my top choice as its a Grad entry program. I currently work at a hospital in my area as a Unit Secretary on a very busy Ortho/Med/Surg floor.
anyone know when we hear back? I saw that last year it was March 1st. anyone know?
I think around March 1 is correct, and I believe we will receive financial aid information in mid-March. ?
Does Duke make you sign a contract that you're promising not to work during the absn? I know one school does, but I don't remember if it was Duke

I haven't heard that but I don't know!
