  1. I got into the DNP family program at Duke! Congrats yall
  2. I'm applying to the BSN to DNP family nurse practitioner track and I just got my invite to interview. I have a friend who is in the program this year and said after her interview she heard back two to three weeks after.
  3. I just got my invite to interview. I'm applying to the BSN to DNP FNP program!
  4. Looking to connect with others who are applying for Dukes DNP FNP program this Fall 2025. I applied by the deadline and am waiting for them to start reviewing. Anyone else in the same boat?
  5. Yes please post the FB group link! I've got my immunization record and thankfully had a TB screening done plus other titer tests etc for the hospital I work for. I suppose I'll have to contact Occ Health to get a record on top of what I have. I don't know if your state has a lock-down, but I have one until mid April. I honestly have ZERO desire to step foot in a doctors office right now, but thank you for the reminder @seacandace. Feel free to PM or DM me but do you have the list of required immunizations?
  6. If they don't let us defer and they make us reapply I'll be livid. I really hope that if it comes down to the school being shut for the Fall that they DO give us options instead of saying HEY here's your $500 please apply for next term. I didn't sacrifice almost 2 years of my life to reapply again considering I got into all my choices and have picked Duke. I wouldn't mind doing a half online half in-person format for the Fall if it meant we could do clinicals you know? I feel like Labs could be done with set groups of people I.e 10 max. And @l8r_sam not sure if you're speaking on the fact the HEA is cancelled and you've paid your deposit or where you are even located. Joking...cool, I get it..this crap is hard as hell to swallow and incredibly depressing and I still have my job in the hospital but it comes with loads of risk. I know all of us are sitting here on pins and needles, but I hope and pray that Duke does the right thing in the end with all of this....and other schools as well. I just loathe all of the uncertainty when I consider what all it took to get me here. I don't know if I'll get into schools again next year if we had to apply again...what about THAT money we lost. Trying not to deep spiral. Just wish people would actually listen about how important it is to social distance and stay home. I see people here in Orlando just out and about with whole families, on roads 24/7, its totally absurd. Anyone else seeing this or feeling like this? If we do manage to start this Fall, I feel like we at least will have a bit of bonding. HaHa
  7. I honestly don't know how I feel with the possibility of having to do our Fall semester online...I feel like Duke should be charging us LESS because of that. I don't feel like learning simulations and doing clinicals via online will be helpful. I hope it'll be something like 8 people in labs or sim lab where we just have to break us up. I wouldn't even be mad if we got pushed back to Spring 2021 or Fall 2021. This whole Covid-19 feels like this next group of nurses who are forced to take an NCLEX with less clinicals hours doesnt seem good. Anyone else feeling this way or nervous about starting when we are? I don't think this will be gone come Fall...I believe it'll reemerge
  8. @seacandaceI look forward to meeting you in the Fall! I was JUST looking at salaries for nurses around the area and that is actually VERY disappointing that the Triangle area only pays $23 an hour. I'm in Orlando and I believe we start anywhere from $24 to $26 so I have my fingers crossed. I assumed that Duke would want to pay their Nurses at $31. I wonder if its due to cost of living? Happy to have a private conversation about this too. I plan to go on and get my MSN/DNP most likely at Duke. My mom is moving up and the house will essentially be mine...like you it's a bit unfathomable that the cost of Duke is so much, but I believe in the program and the research aspect areas we may be exposed to. It's also why I chose the program. I was happy to see Duke on the list of researchers for the Coronavirus. I honestly am sad overall in nursing that pediatric nurse practitioners make 10-20,000 less than other NPs. Tinier the human, less the pay? As for UNC-Chapel Hill, they were on my list when I was looking back in Fall 2018 and Spring 2019, but they wanted all their prereqs done before I could apply and I still had two outstanding, so there went that! But I agree with you that I think if it's feasible for the hospital system to pay their nurses starting rate at $30 and hour they should. I see the tears of my nurses on our med/surg floor when they see they are floated to the floor holding the Covid patients. But thank you for your info. And I look forward to meeting you in the Fall.
  9. @lovelynurse1093 I chose an Accelerated ABSN vs MSN because even I did an ABSN or entry MSN or MA I STILL have to go on and get my doctorate and there are a lot of direct ABSN-DNP and I just figured it fit more into what I want. I read a lot about how direct entry MSN programs are maybe a little too accelerated...a lot of people suggest gaining 3-5 years before getting your NP or DNP. I mean, everyone takes their own path...I got into both an entry MSN and ABSN programs and it was still more cost effective for me to attend Duke and I have zero financial aide. I think both have their positives and negatives. I was working a hospital shift today and I had a nurse say that her close friend attended Duke's ABSN program and LOVED it...she got her dream job working at Georgetown for Peds right after graduation. I also had two doctors say that it's an excellent school, with a great reputation, and that they are good about helping you get a job and that working for Duke University Hospital system is fantastic. I paid my deposit so I guess I'm officially a future student!! Excited to meet you guys. Who all has said yes?
  10. I'll try and drum up some questions tomorrow @garssta. Honestly, I'm thinking that school may not even happen in the Fall. Read a really interesting statistical article about how the virus will lull in Summer but reemerge in Fall meaning quarantines again. Hoping we can sell our house here in Florida and I won't have to leave my elderly Mom to fend for herself. I'm pulling over 40 hour weeks at the hospital currently. BUT I still hold out hope and I swear if I can get up there we WILL have to meet up! Do we know if Duke sets up a FB page? I know other schools do? I want to meet other folk! Also I heard Durham has a pretty gnarly beer scene and they have a whole bar for Cider and that makes me really happy as a former UK resident! We have had our first patient die here at my hospital due to Corona, so things are a little tense...
  11. Of course I'm missing the virtual day as I'll be at work at the hospital! ? Paying my depost tomorrow hopefully!
  12. So I will be giving up my spot for someone on the waitlist. I will be attending Duke instead. It was a tough call to make as GW is a bit cheaper...but my mom wants to retire in NC and it's better cost of living. Best of luck guys!!
  13. So I missed the financial aid deadline...YES I KNOW I'M AN IDIOT. Life just got the better of me. I applied for the merit scholarship. Have we heard about those yet or is it one of those...if you havent heard, you didn't get one? Not sure how it all works. I'll be sending in my deposit soon.
  14. Nothing from the school of nursing but basically everything is closed at Duke. No reunion no games etc. so I assume they are trying to figure it out. All the medical events are cancelled so o assume nursing would cancel too
  15. So all Duke campus events are cancelled. I'm waiting for the official word from Ben, but once o get it I'll have to hope Spirit and air bnb will give me a refund
