Duke ABSN Fall 2020

Published

Hello! I figured it was time to start this thread now that the application deadline is nearly here. Let us commence the stress and commiseration!

I finally submitted my Duke ABSN application yesterday after being away from my computer for months while traveling. I feel excited and hopeful, but the reality is that I won't be able to attend without a significant scholarship. I love Duke's program and my partner lives outside of Durham (I'm currently near Tucson, AZ) so this could be the perfect fit.

Nursing will be a second career for me--I'm 34. I'm curious whether most of my fellow applicants are younger or around my age?

Good luck everyone!

I asked how the process of getting off the waitlist worked, how many people are on the waitlist, & when the deadline is for getting off the waitlist. If no one is assigned numbers, is it random??

did you ever find out?

Yes, I'm sorry! I meant to get back to you, but yesterday was hectic. He said if they have to pull from the waitlist then they will look at all those applicants again and make decisions from there, but we are not given any sort of number. He also said 1-2 months from now is the earliest we would hear back about possible acceptances and that July is the latest we could be taken off the waitlist. He never said how many people are on the waitlist or anything like that, though. ? What about you, have you heard anything else?

@Barbiegirl1229

From previous years the financial packages are released two weeks After acceptance ....this feels like forever.

I believe they are releasing packages in 1 week!

They were released today! I got an email from them at 6pm - it went to my spam folder tho, so I would recommend checking there if you do not see it in your inbox.

I didn't get anything yet! Checked the financial aid portal and my email. Hmm!

Hmm weird! Maybe they are releasing them as they process them? Or it could be that I got mine faster because I sadly did not qualify for any aid... Loans for days, am I right? Haha:,) Has anyone who applied for the merit scholarship heard anything?

@seacandace I didn't receive any email yet. I sent a ton of documents though explaining things I didn't want to remember or explain---it could take them days to look through them and verify ?.

So my issue right now is will Duke cancel Duke Days due to the Corona virus because I've booked an Airbnb and a flight already... I'm flying to the UK the 31st as well so things are a bit worrisome

I highly doubt so. The one case of coronavirus in NC is one county over (Wake County; Duke is in Durham County). From what they have released, the infected individual is confined to their home and not in a medical facility. Plus, the most at-risk population are older adults with pre-existing conditions, so we should be fine!

There are two cases in the area now, and I guess one of the folks went out to a restaurant in Raleigh recently. *massive eyeroll* So we'll see how that goes. My hope is that everyone takes responsible precautions against both mass infection and mass paranoia...

@OctaviaF I know some airlines are offering free changes for travel booked during this time--maybe look into it? Airbnb might as well.
