Dress or scrubs? Females ONLY!!!!

I sometimes work in a pretty good unit of co-workers and the question came up from another young nurse that she'd prefer to wear dresses again instead of pants stated it looked more professional, religion didn't play a purpose in this opinion this was just her opinion so how do you all feel? Me, myself I think both are fine because you can look just as professional in pants.:)

As long as they mandate the hose-dress policy for everyone (including the men), then i'll do it.

:p No dresses. No thank you.

My mom wore a dress when she was in nursing school long ago. That ugly dress is about the only thing I recall about her nursing school days. She cast it aside after graduation.

I was fortunate enough to get to wear the "cafeteria lady uniform" in nursing school which consisted of a smock, button up shirt and slacks. :p Still, it was a lot better than my mom's dress.

I wouldn't be comfortable in it. Even the long shorts in the uniform catalogs scare me. All I can think of when I see those are exposed legs and mystery body fluids coming together. I just don't like the dresses. I'd sooner wear the hat. I work with people that wear the dresses and they look fine, it just isn't for me.

I wear both. I have a few scrub skirts that I pair up with a scrub smock or a plain t-shirt and scrub jacket. I've had trouble finding scrub dresses that are both my style and my units' color, or I'd wear one. Totally personal preference to me, and I hate the feeling of full support panty hose under pants. (and I NEED the support hose!) I do get some curious looks and comments from co-workers/docs who don't know me yet. Heart Queen: I had to laugh when I read your post! I've had to do the hike the dress and jumpon the bed plenty until I found the lever under the bed that instantaneously drops the bed to the floor. :chuckle

I had a few dresses I wore when I was a 'newbie'...didn't take long to chunk that idea after crawling around on the floor looking for a pts house shoes under the bed,ect...not very professional-looking walking around with dirty looking stains on your stockings/dress @ the knees....kinda like hmmmmmm what's SHE been up to...lol ;)

I can't even imagine wearing a dress on a Med/Surg floor.......right, like I'm going to squeeze 270 lbs. into a skirt and then climb up on a bed to transfer a patient!! :chuckle I'm pretty athletic for someone of my size and age, but there are limits.......and I HATE pantyhose!!

Some of those dresses are just so cute. I ended up buying one and was uncomfy ALL DAY! It rode up, it twisted around...ugh! And, my pantyhose irritated the HECK out of my inner thighs and got too tight around my toes and was squeezing them to death. NEVER AGAIN!

I would say that you'd have to remember how to sit in a skirt or dress, but heck, who gets to do THAT?

I always think those dresses look really cute... but I could never pull it off. Especially the girls who wear the white shorter dresses! I think I'd be dirty, stained, and have runs in my pantyhose after 15 minutes!

I do have to say - I think scrubs can really look nice... if they are put together nice. I think that when scrub tops get so faded that you can't distinguish the print any longer, it's time to get new ones. Or when you see scrub pants that have been washed so many times you can see right through them.... ewww... not professional IMO. :imbar

If someone wants to wear a dress, that's ok with me.

I think where I work most all wear scrubs. One female wears a few outfits that remind me of pajama top and bottom. I've never seen the type she wears in any catalog or store.

What I don't like is seeing someone wear white knee highs with a dress or long shorts (which are allowed in the summer).

If a co-worker wanted to wear a dress, I could care or less. However, for myself...no way! Not at work, they are way too uncomfortable! Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time I've seen someone wear a dress....(while working, I mean).

Usually scrubs, but on occasion I wore a LONG (ankle length) navy skirt with a white shirt and white lab coat and got many compliments. The only thing was the Rockport prowalkers looked a little funny with a dress.

Definitely scrubs. I think they're more comfortable.
