Dress or scrubs? Females ONLY!!!!

Hi

I sometimes work in a pretty good unit of co-workers and the question came up from another young nurse that she'd prefer to wear dresses again instead of pants stated it looked more professional, religion didn't play a purpose in this opinion this was just her opinion so how do you all feel? Me, myself I think both are fine because you can look just as professional in pants.:)

There was another thread on this somewhere that got pretty heated. My personal opinion is this: If you feel more 'professional' in a dress, by all means wear it. As for me, I'll stick to scrubs. I'd rather not have any doubt in my mind that not only will I be comfortable, but everything will stay covered up, no matter how many times I bend over, or squat down, or if I should fall, whatever... My vote is scrubs.. but, to each his own..

professional what? Does she infer that men are not professional since they don't wear dresses? Being well groomed and ACTING professional carry more weight with me. But then, I hate pantyhose. Dresses infer TO ME that this person does not intend to get down and dirty if the situation demands.

no way! dresses/skirts are just not practical for the job!

it has nothing to do with professionalism but rather a preference for personal style----speaking for myself. even though i've always worn scrubs, whenever i see a nurse where one of those scrub dresses, the ones that go to mid-calf, i just love them. and trust me, i get down, up and all around dirty.

As an ER RN, I prefer scrubs with a t-shirt underneath the top! Then - I don't worry. But like another poster stated - if a dress is what the individual wants - go for it!

I have one caribbean blue dress, the first time I had to hike it up to my waist to climb on a bed to do CPR, it went in the trash :p

There is some pretty convincing research that proves that you are far more likely to sustain a back injury if you lift wearing dresses than pants.

That for me is the end of the argument - I am not doing my back in for fashion!!!

I agree with what Gwenith said, and I wouldn't wear a dress myself at the bedside; however, if my colleagues (male or female) want to wear one, it's fine with me! ;)
