Fired for refusing to draw blood without an order.
I recently left a clinic job where the current and previous office managers tried to tell me my job, (I was the only nurse and only 1 doc). Didn't take me long to let them know how things worked. Not only would they tell me what to do for the pts but also who I could approve med refills for without consulting with the doc. I finially after monthes of trying got the doc to write out some standing order for me to use a guides for routine visits and a list of meds that could by authorized for refills depending on last exam of pt,etc.l Pts loved the shorter wait times to be seen and the dear doc loved being able to see more pts in a days time. Of course the office manager wasn't too happy, esp when I booked mark the BON site and often refered her to that when she demanded I do something out of my scope of practice. I hear she is back to bullying the poor soul that replaced me when I left that clinic. I did find out later that now the business office staff is now authorizing med refills, is that legal?

75 Questions Doesn't feel any better than 265
Two years ago I passed with 75 questions thinking I only knew the answers to 2 of the questions, I understand how ya'll feel, Cheer up I'm sure you all passed!

What is it really like to be a new graduate nurse????
I think stress the careplans less and the verbal interactions with the doctors, and other departments in the hospital setting would have helped me more. Also I would like to see the students teamed with nurses on the floor working a patient load instead of just one or two patients per student. The shock of taking 5-7 or more patients is pretty overwhelming to a new grad. I have the chance to see my clinical intructor often now (working in the same hospital now) and after talking to her last week about this same topic, she is working with the school to try and change her clinical for the fall. Hope this will work out, I really think next years grads will not be as stuned when they go to work if it can be changed.

Spoiled my kids!!!!! No more discount sneakers for those two, name brands shoes like their friends!!! Kind of silly but kids are happy. One teenager and a pre-teen really enjoyed going all out at the mall. But now it's back to the old spending habits and paying bills (yuck!!)

disciplinary nightmare
Been in front of the board of nursing several years ago, positive outcome by the way. Any way the advice from the others is in the mark!!! Good eye contact and take your time answering questions, don't volunteer any information only answer the questions. Congrats on the baby!!! All will be fine be sure of this! Mary RN

Working in Hospitals
I just started working in a hospital after 10+ yrs in LTC and 3yrs in clinic and it is hands down much better for me to be in the hospital. When I first became an LPN I thought hospital nursing was not for me... wish I had gone a different route now!!!! Clinic and LTC are great and someone has to do it but its not for me anymore.

Feeling like I blew it!
I haven't met a nurse with kids yet that does not panic when it is their own kid. I know and admit to turning into a complete idiot when one of my kids is hurt!!!! Good thing DH is able to focus on the problem at hand and take care of things. I can handle the injuries of others with no problem just not my kids.

How long did you take to test?
75 questions in 40 mins, sat in the parking lot 30 mins crying over thinking I failed. Two days later results in and I passed. Three years of school and it all rode on a 40 min period of time hmmmmmmm

Understaffing? Your opinion
Had a job in LTC once as an LPN that sounded very much like the OP described. Me, 3 CNAs on a good night and 65 pts!!!!! Usually only 2 CNAs and sometimes only one. The house supervisor was no help on a busy night, the supplies where in another building and the HS was afraid to go outside in the dark to get things for us to take care of the patients. I was constantly getting jumped for not changing foley's, and dressings, feeding tube bags, etc.... didn't matter that the HS won't get the needed items for the night shift nurses or let us have a key to get them ourselves. Needless to say that job didn't last long (5 weeks) went back to the LTC I had worked at for years with the hard learned lesson that more money wasn't alway worth the risk.

Does it pay to challenge a test question?
challanging test questions is all in the approach. I personaly questioned the instructor on many questions and always had material to backup myself during the sessions. I didn't always gain my points but I learned to look at the questions from another point of view. Our instructors had no problems in students questioning the test and welcomed the chance to clarify any questions, even in Wal-mart!lol And by the way I got my NCEX results on Friday...... I PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Impressions of NCLEX
I took the nclex today to, had an hour drive home in the pouring rain, cried all the way home. Mine shut off at 75 also and I felt like someone had hit me in the stomach with a 2x4! Mine was mostly proirity and delagation. None of the new formats. I just know I'll be going back.

EMTs past or current
I'm an emt cardiac tech and an RNA, hoping to drop the A next week after I take boards. Also have been an LPN and CNA. All of that experience, I thought helped me during nursing school and I think that the nurse training has helped to make be a better EMS provider too!

Worried about co-worker
I have recently started a new job and during the orientation process all the new hires are together for many days. So here's my concern, one of the newbies is always discussing her "medication habits". Usually I'm not to worried about what others do but in the healthcare setting I want my co-workers alert at all times (not asking for to much). Well today I noticed she took her medication 3 times in a very short period, and yes she has told us what she takes. (not keeping it secret at all) I spoke to another co-worker about this after work and they are also concerned. Should we go to the supervisor? Being new I really dont' want to rock the boat but I don't want a bad patient outcome either. How do others handle things like this?
