Nurses General Nursing

ok, just now i was watching dr. phil interveiw a physician who had an affair with a nurse and he said (as close a paraphrase as i can remember from five minutes ago):

"i've worked in the health care delivery system for a long time and i've seen lots of times nurses playing footsie with doctors because they see it as their ticket out of having to work as a nurse".

ok, i'm not going to even get into all the problems with this statement since they are obvious, i am writing the show right now to explain why this is not an acceptable way to desribe a profession.

who's with me?

You guys are all hilarious. You're all mad at the cheating guy, but surely the mistress nurse knew all along that he was married. I worked the same shift for over three years and saw unmarried, pregnant nurses roaming the hallways (and using co-workers for all their dirty work) one after another unabated. Let's not pretend that the nursing profession is spilling over with an abundance of moral and ethical behavior. It really consists more of high-mindedness than anything else.

He's a married man with children and KNEW better yet didn't DO better. I seriously doubt the nurse tied him down and forced him to cheat.

Unmarried pregnant nurses roaming the hallways . . .sounds like Mediao movie.

There are people EVERYWHERE and in every profession who choose to make immoral choices.

The nurse who got involved knowingly with a married man and the married man who got involved with the nurse are both at fault.

Making the selfish choices above without thought to other spouses or children is a very sad commentary on life. And it happens everywhere.

Only thinking of yourself is perhaps the ultimate sin.

Who's with me?

I have been a nurse ofr 22 years and while over the years there has been some "footsie" taking place btn nurses and physicians, it has been no more prevalent than any other type of "footsie"!!!!!!!!!! A hundred years ago we were considered lose women, less than desirable, and socially unaceptable because we chose this profession. I thought this image had changed!!!!!

How dare we be characterized as such by 2 professional pigs!! This is the first time I have stepped into this forum to make a reply......boy what subject matter. If you need help..........let me know.

Ladies a man donot go any further than you would let them go. A word of wisdom.

We are in control we can say no to doctor. Do not be fool by people. They both made a bad choice and have go through the consequences.

nope, that quote is from Dr. Phil himself. :angryfire

I got on the website and sent a quick e-mail, but I plan to follow it up with a typed letter

Sorry, but you've got the wrong Doctor. the Dr. who said that was the cheating husband, NOT Dr. Phil. Dr. Phil wanted to know how long the wife was going to let him get away with that garbage. There was no support for the cheating creep at all. He was told that he is being unfair to all concerned and the baby may not even be his, for crying out loud! The wife was also asked why it was her husbands decision whether he stayed or left the marriage. I mena, this guy jumps back and forth and his wife just takes it! What self-respecting woman is going to let a man treat her that way forever? :angryfire

I wrote a short letter to Dr. Phil's web site provided by this site yesterday. Thanks to whomever supplied that contact information. I feel better having written directly to the source. I wonder if I'll hear back from him and perhaps get on a show regarding his ridiculous comment. At any rate, I think it was a great letter and I believe it was therapeutic for me to do. Now, what do we do about the rest of the people out there who share his opinion? I guess our work is never done.

I transferred to the CCU about 6 months ago and I see a big difference in the level of respect given to nurses just from making that switch. I have been a nurse for 15 years and have worked in various departments including the ER, post cath unit, and telemetry units. I would recommend the units to any of you nurses out there willing to try. I don't think enough respect is given to the floor nurses who really have the most difficult job especially given the fact that the workload just keeps increasing in light of the shortage. It's insane.

There are many things I don't understand in the world today including the human capacity to make generalizations and limit themselves from being totally thankful for everyone on the healthcare team. Perhaps if I did understand, that would make me just like them and I don't want to be like that so I will choose to lead by example and continue to ponder why some people are the way they are.

I have never liked Dr. Phil, that's probably why I did not see the show you are all talking about. But one thing about Dr. Phil that really annoys me is: He has an answer to everything!!! I watched a few shows, but then I saw this couple, I don't know if anybody remembers, the wife cheated on her husband and got pregnant, and the daddy was black! The family decided to give the baby away to save their marriage - puke - and shortly after that she got pregnant again from her husband. I was so upset, when Dr. Phil agreed that their decision of giving the baby away was right. What kind of person are you if you can give one baby away, because the color is "wrong" (just guessing, would have been to difficult to explain to the world....), and have another baby right after that? That was the last Dr. Phil show that I've watched.

The comment about nurses, if he made it was more than inappropriate. Why doesn't HIS wife get a life instead of smooching around with him after every show? It might be helpful for her to make her own money, seems like she is spending a whole lot of money on plastic surgery. I could even recommend a good nursing school to her, just in case if she needs more education.....

Sorry - I am maaaaad and not therapeutic :-)

Dr Phil is speaking from personal experience!!! In Texas, before he was famous he had an affair with a client- who then he hired as his assistant in his counseling practice ( he has a PhD in psychology- not an MD). She had no license or training. She was actually involved in his clients care, treatment, etc. Their affair continued. He got his licence revoked for it, and was required to work only with supervision of another professional. He didn't remain in the profession long and years later became the famous DR. PHIL !!!

I think he's a sham and have no respect for the guy-- especially after a comment like that!!

What in the HECK does his wife's PHYSICAL APPEARENCE have to do with his COMMENT??

Not seeing the show I have to say that I do give the woman who gave her baby up for adoption credit for not having an abortion. I don't know if she gave the baby up because it was the wrong color or because it wasn't her husbands......I think adoption is a much less selfless act then abortion.
