Do you sign "RN' after your name OUTSIDE of the hospital?

Published

For example, this one nurse told me she signs RN next to everything she signs now - eve check- which is so retarded and no warranted for in my book. your thoughts?

if it becomes the case of showing your licneses' off, then can you imagine howit becomes when the buildling contractor want to list all of his qualifications after his name and so on? :)

No.

Here, I thought we were adults AND live in 2009. I guess I was wrong.

Hey, you're living in 2009? Cool, how are things going? Back here in 2008 things are plodding along nicely.:D

Sorry, I couldn't resist.:yeah:

Peace,

only by accident, off topic, I once got sucked into an automatic membership thing when I ordered something on the internet, I was to be automatically charged/enrolled, which I certaintly wasn't happy about, I emailed the company and signed it " Attorney at Law" , worked awesome !!!! I was immediately taken off.....

When you are impersonating an attorney, sign it "JD". ;)

No thanks. Outside work, the fewer people that know I'm a nurse the better, as far as I am concerned. Of course I would offer my services in an emergency (on the off-chance that a fullterm lady is going to precip in the WalMart parking lot...:)) but do not go around with a sign around my neck proclaming Elvish, RN. Nope, me likes me anonymity.

I have done it before - but it was on accident - esp on checks when I was tired....

I don't do it on purpose but it does occasionally happen esp if I've worked several days on end signing order after order and being fatigued. I don't advertise what I do for a living.

Specializes in Ortho, Case Management, blabla.

No, I don't do it. I never will. Funny though; My next door neighbor is an RN and when she answers her phone she says, "Jane Doe, RN." Instead of "Hello" Even if its her mom calling or something. I personally think she's kind of flaky.

i'm young, and retarded is just what i say when i think something is lame. that's all

I suppose that means that if people are old that it's OK for them to use racial slurs because that's just how people talked when they were growing up. Of course, it's not OK. Age is never an excuse for being disrespectful and unkind.

I have done it with out realizing it. Then if i can tear up what ever I signed, I DO. It is usually when ever I am commming home from work in the morning. If I have to stop some where, like the market or the mall, and use my credit card, I sign my receipt and i can't count how many times the RN, and just attached it's self to my name b/c I am in zombie mode and have signed about 10000 papers all night with my name and RN next to it. When I realize I do it, I usually think to my self, "Maybe you should be at home sleeping, insted of shopping after a 13 hour shift, then maybe you wouldn't be signing credit card receipts with the RN attached to your name"...haha...

My fiance is a Police Officer with the NYPD. He does the same thing, with out realizing it he will sign something with P.O. (Police Officer) in front of his name. He gets so angry when he does that. I can't tell you how many times I have come from working a 13 hour night shift, a 1 hour drive home, and walk into the house and have to drop off our rent checks to the landlord...

HAHA My fiance usually signs his before he goes to bed, he works 4p-1a and dosen't go to sleep till 6 am, so he usually leaves it on the table for me. I get home at 9am usually from work. I get my check book, write the check sign it. I can't tell you how many times I am stading at my landlords front door 3 block away from where we live and realize both checks look like this, mine is signed Angie *******, RN and his is signed P.O. Robert *******...I just laugh b/c we don't mean to do it AT ALL....and would never do it normally...hahaha

Never....then someone asks you, "what do think this is."

Specializes in LTC, Subacute Rehab.

Sometimes. Usually when tired - I almost never sign my name outside of work, so "S O'Hara LVN" is sortof engrained in my muscle memory.

Specializes in psych. rehab nursing, float pool.

I have entered my title accidentally, as most often if I write my name it is at work. The rare times I sign outside of work I need to concentrate to make sure I leave my title off.
