or go to nursing school and than find out they are still in the Pre Req phase? I swear I have seen a good number of people do this, and than when I say, "Oh what semester are you in, I am in this semester" they are like, Oh well I am not actually in yet but I start pre reqs soon, or I just started pre reqs. I wonder why that is. Before I started the actual program I would say if asked that I was doing Pre Reqs to get into the nursing program. Or I am on the waitlist for the nursing program.
Because it makes ppl feel good :) I don't know.I know this is off topic but:
Don't you hate it when someone blasts you on a post on allnurses about how you won't be successful in nursing school based solely on a post that you wrote and you go to check their profile and it says "pre-nursing" or "working super hard on my pre-reqs" (no offense to any1 who has this) in their bio or w/e and you are like * the * up stupid face.
Oh yes I love the posts about how nursing school is from non nursing students. I imagine it's much how the nurses feel when they are blasted by students, although at least in clinicals and stuff we get a glimpse on the other side. But still isn't the same.
What an interesting thread which in turn has made me feel homeless:crying2: Although I am officially a nursing student at my school I hardly ever post on this board because obviously I have not actually started my nursing courses yet, but will be soon. I don't find the threads on the pre-nursing section to really match me because I have taken all my pre-req's so I don't have any questions on them, as well as I don't have worries about needing a plan B or getting into nursing school since I have. So I guess until next semester I am homeless unless there is somewhere I can post about just taking really boring sucky gen. ed classes and being very bored until next semester when I can offically join the ranks

As long as it's official, then you are a student nurse. I haven't officially started my classes yet, but I have been accepted into our program, so I am a student nurse--officially, just like you.
September 2008 - "I'm taking a class at CC to see if I am capable of being a student again."
June 2009 - "I'm half-way done with pre-reqs for nursing and I'm taking 2 lab courses at the same time. I'm hoping to apply to nursing school next year."
September 2009 - "I took a CNA class over the summer and I'm applying for nursing school next year."
December 2009 - "All done with pre-reqs, now all I have to do is knock out a couple of writing classes and a PE class"
February 2010- "Oh my gosh, writing 2 research papers and another bunch of papers for my reading class, I wish I was still doing my science classes."
March 2010 - "I applied for nursing school."
May 2010 - "Yay, I got in."
June 2010 - "I'm a nursing student."
September 2010 - "Just waiting for class to start."
Yes, I don't know why anyone would want to embellish but it's certainly a lot simpler to say.
Yes, my mother-in-law told me that her sister's daughter-in-law was going to nursing school. Well, it was medical transcriptionist school. Slight difference.
I'm finishing up my last two semesters of pre-reqs and would feel funny calling myself a nursing student when I haven't been accepted into a program yet. That said, it is often people that aren't familiar with the nursing school application process and requirements that often assume taking pre-reqs for nursing school = being in nursing school. I've had to correct more than one person when they mistakenly thought I was an actual nursing student. I'll be happy when I get accepted to a program next fall and don't have to awkwardly correct people anymore.
CNA is a tricky one because in many places, it is offered through the nursing department of a school. Also, the majority of the people in my CNA class last month were either pre-med or pre-nursing students. I realize there is a huge difference in scope of practice, but people outside of the healthcare field don't always understand the differences between CNAs, LPN/LVN, RNs and NPs or other advanced practice nurses - they all get lumped into the generic nurse category.

I wasn't even talking about people on this board. I am talking about people in real life misrepresenting themselves and than back tracking when called out on it. If I were taking pre reqs for law school I wouldn't go around saying I am a law student or in law school, I would say I was pre law. Same with Medical School.
we are in the same road... dont nurses eat their yourng?then student nurses eat the pre reqs!
Not eating anyone, I am always uplifting to people I know are going into nursing school. I get excited for them. Or even new nursing students. I remember how excited I was so I like to encourage them. I was just curious if people other places ever notice this.

I don't see where it could be considered a nursing program. A CNA's scope of practice is not anywhere near a nurses scope of practice. CNA's are valuable and have their place, but the training classes they go through are not near the same as what nurses go through. It reminds me of the whole MA's calling themselves Nurses debate.
There is nothing wrong with being a Pre Nursing student, CNA, or whatever you may be. But people should represent themselves honestly. I worked my orifice off to get into my nursing program. I wouldn't ever think or telling people I am a nursing student or in the nursing program if I wasn't yet. Why not just say I am pre nursing?
