or go to nursing school and than find out they are still in the Pre Req phase? I swear I have seen a good number of people do this, and than when I say, "Oh what semester are you in, I am in this semester" they are like, Oh well I am not actually in yet but I start pre reqs soon, or I just started pre reqs. I wonder why that is. Before I started the actual program I would say if asked that I was doing Pre Reqs to get into the nursing program. Or I am on the waitlist for the nursing program.
Oh and today some girl bought one of our nursing lab kits at the bookstore and she just started her pre reqs. I mean come on, the school only has so many and some of us like to buy 2 because they are practiced on so much. They aren't meant to be for non nursing students.

I dont get why they do that since there is a high chance most will either a.) change majors or b.) not make it in to the program. Our school, its a smaller one, had 100 something freshman declare nursing as their major and only about 20 taken each year. So there is some bleeding of students between freshman and the prgram. But yeah i think its dumb.
Our school is changing the process but so far it's been a wait list and they were only taking 25 students a semester. So I was on the waitlist for 3.5 years before my number was called. Now they have a separate waitlist for previous BS students and take 50 students, 25 from each. But they will be going competitive soon to help that.
The gal that bought the kit today is what made me think about it. Someone had asked her if she was a nursing student and she didn't realize it was a table of nursing students she was talking to. So she was like Oh yea I am a nursing student here and when asked what semester and realized that we were students she back tracked. I have seen that a lot. My friend also in my class was working in Admissions and records and she said a lot of people said that as well. She said a lot of the staff would direct nursing program related questions to her since she was in the program and she would talk to the student and than find out they weren't actually nursing students yet.

I know! One of my pts told me his grand daughter was a nsg student. I asked her where she was going to school...she told me she was in a nsg program to get her CNA. What ever!
I'm in a bridge program and still need to challenge ACE 1 and ACE 2. My advisor says I can do it anytime I'm ready. I can even do it my last semester. Even though I'm in my second semester, I still don't FEEL like I'm really in the program untill I challenge those classes. I'm wishing now I had done them BEFORE starting the program.

Yes I do but I think it may because of the school. Some schools will call of the students that and some don't. I know at my school you are considered pre-nursing and even once you're accepted they don't change you over until your pre-req's are successfully completed which could be right before your first nursing semester. I will also proudly say I didn't even switch my status on here until they changed it for me at school :)
My school is a community college, not a specific nursing school. I think that is what happened with our status at school to. You can't register for any nursing classes until you are officially accepted and considered a nursing student. But I think before that it classified as Pre Nursing.

Yes, but I considered myself a nursing student before I was in the program. I would typically answer people though with the "im taking classes needed for the nursing program"

CNA's may not be nurses but I could see how some would consider it nursing program.

Yes, tons of people do this at my school.
Before I was accepted I would usually refer to myself as "working towards getting into the nursing program." My school is really competitive; it's our area's only community college and only accepted about 50 RNs and LPNs out of over 300 applicants for this semester.
Although it is a little bit dishonest, it doesn't really bother me - I think so many people here are so determined to get into the program they don't want to even think about the chance that they may not.

Because it makes ppl feel good :) I don't know.
I know this is off topic but:
Don't you hate it when someone blasts you on a post on allnurses about how you won't be successful in nursing school based solely on a post that you wrote and you go to check their profile and it says "pre-nursing" or "working super hard on my pre-reqs" (no offense to any1 who has this) in their bio or w/e and you are like * the * up stupid face.

Well, I'm a nursing student, legally, and I'm not currently in nursing school. I applied and was accepted 7 months ago to a school in an area that's not near my current home. But I am a transfer student with advance standing, and I need to be a full time student. So, we (school and I) charted a plan where I take certain prereqs here where I am, and then relocate to live near the school and join the rest of the class in January and add a course in a couple of semesters so that I finish in less time but get the same education.
