HI can any one offer some information. I was dismissed from nursing school when I have only two days left to complete my preceptorship and it was counted as my two failure. I have finished everything I have to do in my nursing classes except these two days left for the preceptorship. Now I am planning on going to start all over again in a different school because I still love nursing and I want to be a nurse. And if I go in to do LPN, I have finished everything. Can anybody refere me to either a school where I can transfer my credits and finish and get my degree or where I can seat for NCLEX PN since I have finished everything except those two days left for my preceptor ship.
Will appreciate your information and advice.
You are right. I agree with you. That is why I encouraged the student not to given up, even if it means attending another school, transferring, etc. I wish you the best and hang in there be tough. Always know that when one door closes...another may open...it may not always be the same door so keep your eyes alert, your mind open, and your heart in the right place. Best of luck!
Contact the individual schools in Michigan:http://www.michigan.gov/documents/mdch_nurse_approve_ed_prog_98366_7.pdf
You could always move to a state that does accept educational equivalency and take the NCLEX-PN there. The license, however, will not endorse to Michigan.
Are there many states left that still do this? I know NYS dropped this either last year or the year before. It may be a difficult these days.
To the OP, did they give you a specific write up on why you failed? I would ask for something to see exactly what you were dismissed for. IMO it is important why you were dismissed..not for our knowledge, but for future schooling. You are going to need to defend yourself in any interview.
Good luck.
Why would pple demand to know the details of what happened, that there are more to what happened. If you don't want to help just forget about it if you want to offer help go ahead and give suggestions. Most pple are not specific when they offer help. Pls I think this site is to help one another. I mean if you are telling me that you went to LPN school and it took you only 6 months or 12 weeks, I need to know the name of the school so that I can benefit from your information. I am still looking for help either to transfer my credits to LPN or to transfer to nursing school and finish up. Pls I really need help that was why I signed up on this site. Any more specific help. I will really apprecaite it. Somebody was saying that she had only one semster away from graduating and was dismissed and was able to get into another school that too her 6 months to graduate and another one said she transfered to the one that took her 12 months to graduate. Pls be specific and help either LPN or RN will be appreciated. Thanks to all and Merry Xmas to everybody
This may be a bit OT, but I have to address it. The reason many of us want to know more details is because the info you gave does not make sense.
Yes, some programs are malignant and will dismiss for less than ethical reasons ... in that case, an appeal might get you somewhere.
Some programs are a bad fit ... in that case, making a program switch makes sense.
But the universe does not owe you a license, no matter how much you love nursing, care about people or have dreamed about it since early childhood.
LPNs and RNs need an extensive knowledge base and the ability to think critically ... the life and welfare of your patient demands it.
Don't ask for help if you're not going to be candid about the problem. It's a bit like a pt complaining about a bit of heartburn and failing to mention the sweating, nausea and palpitations that come with it.
^ You are very right! There is no reason for anyone to know why you were dismissed.
If this person was kicked out of nursing school for a valid reason, and is now on here asking us to help him/her find a way around that valid dismissal, then yes...we certainly do have a reason to know why they were dismissed.
I have to say not suprised at all, people get fail for all sorts of thing at my school it is a joke, you go all the way to the end and you can't answer a question and your out, cmon folks I don't know how many times I have to stop and think of an answer because some overbearing CI is throwing questions at you and trying her hardest to intimidate you. Go speak to your dean or nursing school official and see how this could be two fails and if you can come back next semester. If not go for your LPN even if you have to go back to school, you should breeze through, I know it stinks but it seems to me at some schools the attitude of some of these instructors is "you don't deserve to be a nurse" or you are unworthy to join our profession, unbelievable, I will be praying for you
From what I have understood about the persons post they are asking for help in reference to finding another school to transfer credits. I am not quite sure what you are reading but no where did I read that he/she was asking for us to help find a way around their potential dismissal. Here are the exact words from the initial post 'Can anybody refere me to either a school where I can transfer my credits and finish and get my degree or where I can seat for NCLEX PN since I have finished everything except those two days left for my preceptor ship.'.... So no you certainly don't have a reason to know why he/she was dismissed. The poster has already been frank with us and has indicated that they have no interest in sharing. Does she/he have to be anymore blatant in that?
People come on these boards to get advice. So don't add onto their frustrations or problems.
Nduka- Good luck and I hope you find a school! :)
Im sorry you got dismissed but the reason you got dismissed does matter. If you dont want to say that is fine. So far this year 6 people have been kicked out of my program none of them were kicked for patient safety issues or unethical problems so if they wanted they can come back next year (my school only has a start each fall and you must take your classes in a certain order). I talked to some senior nursing students about a person who did a med error (using the wrong type of syringe, therefore wrong dosage) and almost gave it to the patient. But the instructor stopped her, told her and even gave her a chance to see what she did wrong. She still did not know or think she was wrong. She was then kicked out. She cant come back at all. When she applied to another school using her classes she had already taken they questioned why she was dismissed. Sorry so long but in the end she just started all over at another school. Hopefully something similiar does not happen to you. Goodluck.

That person was very, very lucky. Because of the backup of people trying to get into nursing school, many schools won't even bother with students who have failed out elsewhere. I've seen on many requirements lists, that people who are not eligible to return to their former schools are not welcome. So you know that it will be difficult finding a new program that will accept you.
Before you go applying to another school, why not go through the appeals process 1st. You should be able to state your case in front of the board. I would start their. Gather all of the infor for another school just in case you need it, but try that 1st. If need be, write letters to the director or try the student nurse assoc and your board of nursing. I wish you the best and good luck with it.

As I stated before, why she was dismissed may not be important for us to know, but it will be important when it comes to finding another school or way to get her LPN. Ignoring that fact and not giving the OP an honest and compete answer IS going to add to her frustration. Schools are going to want to know why she was dismissed if she is trying to transfer credits.
I think those that mentioned trying to appeal, might be on to the best answer. We had several in my LPN class that were able to join up with the next class later in the program to finish. If the OP indeed was dismissed just for lack of knowledge, this is the best and cheapest route.
Nduka, good luck and please understand that people are just tyring to help, not trying to be intrusive.
Please help! I am just about to get dismissed from 4th semester of ADNS program. Last semester, I got a poor mid term evaluation, I worked hard and I passed clinical. But now, they are talking about dismissal. My clinical instructor now, who is also the DON of the program said that I am not at 4th semester level and I am not safe. This week at clinical, I had to give LASIX, but i did not have an oportunity to look for the potassium level ( it was not in the chart and all computers were busy) I told her that I WOULD not give it before know the level, but she said that I should know before, she pull the meds from the cart. I enterd a wrong information in the computer, but I corrected. I had trouble to hang an piggybag. I undestand that I did not do so good, but I see other students doing worse and nothing happen! I talked to a counselor and she said that it happen before and usually is with minority students ( English is my second language). She even admitted that the nursing program is very racist ( this came from a School counselor!). I am writing down everything that happens around me and I am thinking about appeal if they dismiss me, but I am discouraged. She gave a deadline for this week, if she would not see any improvement, I would be dismissed! Should I dropp it before? Should I stay, and goes trought the pain? What about if I appeal and the results are bad? The fact of been sismissed from a nursing program would be in my records forever! Please help!

^ You are very right! There is no reason for anyone to know why you were dismissed. Your question was pertaining to other nursing programs and transferring credits. Don't pay any attention to the ones seeking more information from you.
I am not sure what state you are in but I used this site when I was looking for programs in my state. The contact info and websites are listed. http://www.allnursingschools.com/
Hope that helps and Good luck!!!
