Joliet and JJC former and current students
Any of you guys know if you're a LPN already and do the transition, how long does it take to complete? Do you get into 2nd or 3rd Semester ? Thanks
-
Just accepted into JJC's nursing program. Now what?
Hi Lifeis2good I wonder if you could please let me know how are the clinicals at JJC (2nd and 3rd Semester). Is it hard? Are the instructors helpful? Are their mean? Does anybody fall in clinicals? I am terrified about clinicals, I have had a very bad experience and a previous- current program, that actually made me sick! Also how many semester you go if you're already a LPN? I really apreciatte if you can let me know. Thanks.

Hi, it was not me that said that I'm scared, but I like to answer this. The program is just fine. The problem is if you live in State like Illinois, which requires your preceptor to have a Master's degree, so we can go all the way and not be able to finish because clinicals. ISU is a high recognized University and I am sure the program is very good. But find a preceptor in Illinois for example, is very hard.

I live in Illinois, which does not recognize Elcesior, unless you work 2 years in another state and apply for reciprocity. I am also afraid of CPNE(Elcesior clinicals). I have a co-worker who did and failed all 3 chances.

Yes, this particular community college did, but other communities colleges that I applied did not. I am doing LPN to RN bridge and I am in the 4th semester( last semester), but I am having so many problems ( discrimination is just one of them...) Any way, I just dropped Med Surg IV, so I am not be able to graduatte this Spring. I am doing pshych and Seminar . I can go back there next Spring, but I am considering another options. This program has been a nightmare for me...

Very easy, homeworks, tests , all online and open book. I got an A in both classes which raised my GPA. But the not all college accepts the credits. ISU does it and the Community College that I am at, did. chamberlain College of Nursing did not.

I tested out Microbiology throught excelsior college and ISU accepted my credits. It is like a CLEPP exam. There is one college : "calcampus on line", that offers science classes . I did a computer and algebra class through it and ISU accepted.

Thanks. I have started a contract in the past, when I got accepted two years ago. Actually the problem is not to find a site, but a preceptor. It is easy to get a site approved, but you need a preceptor to go with you or the facility has to provide one. All the facilties that I tried told me that they did not have anybody with a Master's degree that could be my preceptor.

Having to repeat a course
I just dropped Med sug IV before they failed me. I was not doing so good in clinicals and started getting bad in Theory. We need 80% to pass. I am feeling a total failure. I am aloud to start Psyhc this semester, but not able to graduated with the rest of my class. It is so painful. I filled out a re-admission form to get back next Spring and finish the program. But all depends of seat availability. It hurts!

Hi Chaxanmom, Can you please tell me about clinicals? I think that going to Terre Haute is a possibility for me. I live 4 hours away from it. How often did you go for clinicals? I undestand that there are 6 classes requiring clinical hours, so how did it go? Did you go only weekends or week days ? Did ISU helped with finding a preceptor, once you did go to Terre Haute ? Did you go to clinical together with the ISU campus' students? Sorry for asking so many question, but the only thing that is holding up to go back to ISU is the clinicals hours. Thanks

Dismissed from school
Hi guys, just an update: My heart is broken! I have decided to dropp Med Surg IV( tomorrow). So, I would not be graduating this year! Things are not good, I have not been dismissed yet, but I am failing clinicals and now in theory. I will start Psych and finish Nurse' trends IV this semester and than I will try to get back next Spring and finish the program. In the mean time, I plan to get a job in Acute care, so I can improve my clinicals skills. It is very painful, but I don't know how I can reverse this situation: I already had a test and a quiz, which I only got 59 points of 105 (56%). We need keep an average of 80% to pass. I still have 6 more tests, 5 quizes and a final. But, I don't know if I can make up for it. Not talking about clinicals....

Dismissed from school
I could not go to clinical today, my kids had pink eye and I got it! Maybe it will make my situation worse, but I got a release note from my Doctor justifying my absence. My next clinical is next week. I decided to sent her an email asking what happen if I decide to dropp Med surg now. She sad, that I could complete my other class, start psych this semester and then re-apply for next Spring to do Med Surg IV again .As reading the Nursing handbook, there is no garantee that I will have a seat. So, I still don't know. Any sugestions?
