Dismissed from school

Published

HI can any one offer some information. I was dismissed from nursing school when I have only two days left to complete my preceptorship and it was counted as my two failure. I have finished everything I have to do in my nursing classes except these two days left for the preceptorship. Now I am planning on going to start all over again in a different school because I still love nursing and I want to be a nurse. And if I go in to do LPN, I have finished everything. Can anybody refere me to either a school where I can transfer my credits and finish and get my degree or where I can seat for NCLEX PN since I have finished everything except those two days left for my preceptor ship.

Will appreciate your information and advice.

oops! amended comment: What I meant to convey is that I cannot comprehend why schools of nursing- which supposedly are all about caring, the individual, etc, etc, etc... can treat students in this callous and UNCARING manner. These students may have well turned out to be excellent nurses, given the chance. I am seriously disappointed in the quality of nursing school instructors and administration if this sort of thing is indeed common.

My friend is struggling in her program also. She had to take time off and has had to repeat a semester. Her fails are/were warranted. She came forward to discuss her weaknesses and strenghths. She has repeated her semester and I believe is back on track now. I think you should find out the truth from them. Find out what did those incorrect answers to those questions mean to them? And ask what other recourse do you have. Don't give up. Let them know how strong and determined and how willing you are to take a good look and improve and move forward. I wish you luck. You can do it.

Some of these instructors feels very important when they fail students. I have seen this happens at other schools. My school is so different, they work with the student and make sure that we all understand what we are about to undertake. I just hate it when these instructors fail students in order to build up their self-esteem. Please do not let anyone crush your dream, instead crush their egos by achieving your goals. Do they know how much money one invests in her education? I invest a lot and I definitely would fight this case. May God have mercy on their souls. Just pray my dear because the bible says that the wicked will prosper but only for a time!

Take care sister.

it sounds like theres more to the story that we aren't getting. i highly doubt that a school would dismiss from the entire program simply b/c a student couldn't answer a couple questions they were asked during a preceptorship.

My exact thoughts....

Many students who failed do not say the real reasons they got kicked out. If wereally learned the reasons some students failed, we probably would have failed them too if we were the instructors. In my opinions, most of the instructors are fair, if you do what you suppose to, they wont fail you.

The reason why I was dismissed was that my preceptor will ask me questions during our break time and if I didn't get them right, she will go home and talk to my instructor and my instructor held that on me. Again I already talked to the board of nursing in MI if there is a way I can take NCLEX PN they said no unless I graduated from a school of LPN. So if know any school that can take me let me know. Thanks to all of you who is helping me. I also appealed but to no avail. I mean going back to school of nursing or LPN when I was about to take my NCLEX RN.

Was this a requirement of your perceptorship?

Are ALL the LPN students graded this way?

Did your perceptor ask you about a RELEVANT medication or one that may only be used on a patient once or twice a year?

You are not in pharmacy school. You are not required to know the details of them all.

A perceptor is not an instructor of the college. I would seriously question this. Never heard of anything like this before or seen anything similar on this message board.

I would set up a meeting with the Director of the program and get a list of the objectives for the perceptorship.

I have a very, very funny feeling that there is more to this story.

As a previous poster mentioned, have tried the appeals process at your school?!?!?! One of my fellow students was dismissedbecause his clinical instructor did not think that men should be nurses and did not like blacks. He lost out on both counts. He was 1 minute late to his last clinical by a clock that was running fast. He came in with a group of other students and the clock on the overhead said they still had 3 minutes. She counted him as absent, the two hispanics and the other black as late and the rest of the students as on time. He appealed over the break and was reinstated with us the next semester.

I have seen many students get sent home over stupid explanation. It is time for these egotistic nursing instructors to wake up and realize that nursing is also a caring profession. I would not even allow some of these instructors to look at my dogs because of their uncaring attitude. It is so sad when one takes out student loan and work extremely hard in school, only to be dismissed because an instructor is not validated at home by her husband. She feels more powerful at school where students are vulnerable. This is a shame! I know what I am talking about, I have been in a set of claws at school once but I slowly work myself out of it and now I am happy with my decision to attend another school.

:yeahthat:

We have one of these at our school. She makes everyone's life a living you-know-what.

She often walks into class and says, "Everyone had better watch it today, because I am not in the mood for stupid questions."

Personally, I really don't care what kind of mood she's in...because I have never had a job in my life where my BOSS cared what kind of mood I was in...I was expected to do my job once I got there and leave my personal problems at home.

@ the school i went to, we were able to re-do our stuff there if need-be. like just redoing the preceptorship kinda thing. i would check into that b4 doing anything else.

Need Information: Why were you dismissed, be more specific if youre looking for help. What was the question. We're all assuming that she was dismissed unfairly, or vice versa. We all know the danger in assuming.

Why would pple demand to know the details of what happened, that there are more to what happened. If you don't want to help just forget about it if you want to offer help go ahead and give suggestions. Most pple are not specific when they offer help. Pls I think this site is to help one another. I mean if you are telling me that you went to LPN school and it took you only 6 months or 12 weeks, I need to know the name of the school so that I can benefit from your information. I am still looking for help either to transfer my credits to LPN or to transfer to nursing school and finish up. Pls I really need help that was why I signed up on this site. Any more specific help. I will really apprecaite it. Somebody was saying that she had only one semster away from graduating and was dismissed and was able to get into another school that too her 6 months to graduate and another one said she transfered to the one that took her 12 months to graduate. Pls be specific and help either LPN or RN will be appreciated. Thanks to all and Merry Xmas to everybody
