Defeated and impeached, Trump still commands the loyalty of the GOP's voters

Published

I find it concerning, that this many Republicans support Mr. Trump.

Quote

If there's a civil war in the Republican Party, the voters who backed Donald Trump in November's election are ready to choose sides.

Behind Trump.

An exclusive Suffolk University/USA TODAY Poll finds Trump's support largely unshaken after his second impeachment trial in the Senate, this time on a charge of inciting an insurrection in the deadly assault on the Capitol Jan. 6.

By double digits, 46%-27%, those surveyed say they would abandon the GOP and join the Trump party if the former president decided to create one. The rest are undecided.

Twitter was abuzz of them worshiping the Golden Statue and I think that's a bit over the top.  Obviously the love and support Trump and would love for him to run in 2024 but the religious connotations are bit over the top.

The statue is ugly and ridiculous.  How could they possibly think that was a good thing?  But it was a hit so there is that.

In my opinion.

It's a bit too soon to tell, but Trump still have friends in high places and still has the support of many people.  The reality is that he could very well be the nominee in 2024.

If the news would stop covering Trump's insane antics, it might lessen his impact on his followers. He's playing the media like a fiddle, as usual. The bell has rung, fight's over. Let's everyone turn towards supporting our new president and rebuilding our country. Shame on the news for covering his craziness. Hopefully, our government has a plan in place to prevent any more violence.

So right! Remember him being kicked off Twitter and facebook? How quiet it became. Take the oxygen away and the fire is starved.

If they take the spotlight off him, then they night be forced to talk about the monstrosity of a stimulus bill,  the rapidly growing crisis at the border,  the Equality Act, etc.

That's not going to happen.  Trump is the most corrupt president in US history.  Media will certainly cover the ongoing investigations into his very shady business practices. Congress is likely to investigate Trump's malfeasance and failures as chief executive.   It's entirely possible that the twice impeached ex-president will soon be able to add indicted to his list of descriptors.

Even if Trump wasn't likely to be investigated and deposed and implicated in crimes which will make him news worthy, he will be elevated and amplified by the GOP leadership. The conservative media will discuss Trump's thoughts and feelings and will pretend that Trump didn't really lose that election, that Biden cheated and Trump is the biggest victim.

The plan for preventing ongoing or continued violence should include condemnation of the lies and anti-American sentiment that is currently thick within the GOP.

It's a disaster relief bill.

The media that I read addresses all of those subjects which concern you, it's too bad you've chosen such narrow media which must be forced to cover important news.

Regardless, it's not either or.  Now that the faucet of crap spewing from Trump social media has been slowed the coverage is less influenced by Trump's crazy antics. The important crazy doesn't get drowned out by the trivial crazy that is Trump.

But yet, all you and many others seem to be capable of discussing is Cpac, Trump, the cultists, gold statue, etc.

LOL

Current events are not only historic but entertaining. Why shouldn't we discuss CPAC or Trump or the golden image of Trump at CPAC? Republicans are talking about CPAC and they're talking about Trump and they're talking about the Trump statue.

Not even Fox News is talking about that.  They have nine lead stories about Cuomo.  CNN has the one about his sexual harassment accusation.

On a side note, I am a bit disturbed by the massive stimulus package after the even more massive one that was passed during the Trump administration.

Back to the original topic, Fox News is noting that Trump is taking charge of the Republican Party and that other potential candidates are still showing deference to him.

This story just went up about CPAC and Trump.

Golden Trump statue turning heads at CPAC was made in … Mexico!

Plus the CPAC stage design is an exact shape of the Nazi rune symbol used by the SS.

Tweety:  I agree about your concerns over the stimulus package.  In the time Congress spent arguing over the specifics, we may have had enough time to implement means testing for the "stimulus."  It INSANE that people like me are going to get a check when I've sustained no loss of income.  I sense that the deal made was to send everyone a fat check and let go of the $15 minimum wage.  If they want to stimulate the economy let people EARN more money and they are poor and will spend it quickly on needed items.  My check just goes into the bank and sits there.  Don't want it, don't need it.  But this deal is a concession deal to the Republicans so I'm still gonna blame them for being responsible for waste by giving money to people to don't need it, as opposed to giving money to those who need it the most.  Please - I will never vote Republican again in my life.  I'm an Old Testament kind of person and believe that it takes 2 generations of punishment to make people remember what stupid evil thing they did.
