Dansko, Sorry, DO NOT GO WITH DANSKO

Published

these shoes are not what they are cracked up to be, they are absolutely NOT the best nursing shoes out there, and I am a nurse! I should know! I gave these shoes plenty of time to "break-in" and get used too, no go, I do not have any injuries or any weird thing wrong with my feet, I have perfectly normal feet, these shoes are painful. DO NOT GO WITH DANSKO. I went back to running shoes, then get your tennis shoes / running shoes, forget all of the "the best nursing shoe" claims, dansko and all of the others similar to Dansko are painful and cause injury.

Much like who's french fries are better (McDonalds or Burger King) or who's Cola tastes best (Coke or Pepsi), opinions vary greatly and for variety of reasons.

I personally love my Dansko's. I also love my Nike Shox running shoes. There are those who hate Nike and those who love them. I cannot wear New Balance or any other brand other than Nike due to them causing pain to my feet and my legs/back tend to ache if i wear them too long. If I had to chose between the running shoes and my dansko's, I'd go with my running shoes ONLY because the Dansko's make noise when i walk into a sleeping patients room and tend to wake them. My running shoes allow me to enter almost silently. But that really is the only reason I'd chose one over the other if I was forced to chose.

I have never had any injury from my Dansko's but I have suffered injury while wearing my running shoes. My lace came undone and I somehow must have rolled over the lace with a piece of equipment. when I turned to leave, I was tripped up and fell. and in my vain attempt to catch my fall, took the bedside table down on top of me. My patient was horrified thinking I was seriously hurt, thankfully I wasn't. A few bruises and one badly injured ego.

You must really not like these shoes.. You've posted this on several posts mentioning Danskos :)

I have bad/weak ankles so these shoes aren't an option for me. But they seem to work for a lot of people. I think everyone should try it out for themselves because what one person hates another loves and vice versa.

I've never heard anyone claim that Danskos are the "best" nursing shoes. I know a lot of people like them v. much. I am not interested in them (I'm a Crocs girl :)), but, if other people like wearing them, so what?

And this is what I meant. elkpark is a Crocs girl...whereas you couldn't PAY me to wear them. I tend to get my toes 'stuck' and trip in them. I also find them very uncomfortable giving my arches no support and they make my feet sweat.

But elkpark likes them, so she wears them. She's not a Dansko fan but I am...to each his/her own.

PS..I did not add that link for nike's. It somehow linked itself when I typed and posted it.

I love my Danskos. My feet feel much better at the end of the day than when I wore running shoes. Also, since I started wearing them, I've noticed I take less Tylenol for my back. I have spondylolisthesis, and I think it may help with the pain.

Its some new feature that they are trying out. It's nothing you did.

I've tried on Danskos a couple times and they are soooo uncomfortable! I couldn't imagine wearing those for a whole shift.

I love Crocs!

A nurse should know better to assume that what works best for her will automatically work best for everyone ... or that a particular product she does not like is therefore horrible for everyone.

As nurses, we need to help our patients (and colleagues) find what works best for THEM, not for US.

I am a nurse too. And I used sell shoes. When someone would come into the store and ask for the most comfortable pair of shoes we would never say " Nike" or "dansko". We would say. It's a individual preference.

Ps. Love my danksos. Looking into my next pair. :)
