  1. I have been in my OR residency for about 2 weeks and I'm loving it! You never really realize how easy it is to break sterility (luckily this hasn't happened during an actual surgery). There's so much I'm learning and still need to learn. This thread...
  2. Nurses: How far is your commute?

While in nursing school I commuted 25 miles (20mins-1hr+ depending on traffic) for my tech job. I absolutely hate traffic so for my new job as a RN, I have moved less than 2 miles (5 min drive) away. People do what they have to do to make it, whatev...
  3. Nurses who've had LASIK

Thank you all! I'm going to browse around for a doctor and schedule a consultation. I'm only 22 so might as well do it now and not regret it in the future [emoji4]
  4. Nurses who've had LASIK

Wondering how your surgery went? I am interested in LASIK but I'm worried with all the time I'll spend charting staring at the computer screen will be a problem. I will be starting in the OR next month and have grown tired of my glasses and contacts....
  5. NCLEX RN Advice

I recently passed the NCLEX. The majority of my test prep was using UWorld. I did 75-100 questions a day in untimed study mode and thoroughly read every single rationale (even if I got the question right). The great thing about UWorld was they gave ...
  6. is a Hospital job in nursing school necessary?

I worked as a tech for 3 semesters of nursing school. While not necessary I learned so much and got so comfortable being around patients. Some nurses would even let me practice my nursing skills. I was offered a job on my floor way before it was time...
  7. Watches

Look into Garmin Vivofit, I'm not sure about displaying seconds but it has everything else you mentioned above. You also don't have to charge it every couple of days since its battery operated. If you just want a watch sans pedometer get a Timex fro...
  8. Thank you Ruby for starting this thread, and also Spiker for her thorough responses, and anyone else who has contributed on this thread. I will be starting an OR residency soon and this was just what I needed. I'm sure when I start I will have tons o...
  9. 12 hr shift makeup routine

Make Up Forever Primer your choice of foundation and powder NYX setting spray (this stuff works better than urban decays spray for my skin) Hope that helps, I also blot halfway through my shift. Oily skin is so much work.
  10. Which internship to take?

I would choose job 3 since you've always wanted to work NICU and this hospital has a national reputation. Try talking to people who already work there, ask to shadow. Finally listen to your gut, if something feels off don't chance it. :)

  12. I love this little analogy. I'm just a nursing student, but this explains exactly how I feel about my tech job. Hoping for more red skittle days! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses

  14. Non-FIT Nurses and FIT Nurses

I have tried to cut back on most bad foods, but my love for ice cream won't go down without a fight. I eat the whole pint in one sitting... at least once a week 🙈 I may need help lol Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
  15. Hand hygiene policies

Foam in Foam out ALWAYS. That's the policy at my hospital. I think even if nothing is touched this rule is still in place (for good reason) because "better safe than sorry" :) Sent from my iPhone using allnurses
