Daft things you've done after night shift

OK, I have scrapped the bucket now. I had 4 nights shifts, day off (sleep day, but counted as day off) then 2 late shifts. Today, on my day off I took my daughter to McDonalds. After eating I tried to get out of the car park and ended up the wrong way in the drive in!!!Lots of tooting of car horns and one very red face (mine). Of course, daughter who is taking driving lessons has promised not to mention this to anyone ho ho ho.

Has anybody else done daft things after night shifts?

put the sugar in the fridge etc.

have you ever had a conversation with someone after your shift but before going to bed and completley forgotton it when you wake up

i have

I have a friend who drove home after a night shift and woke up several hours later asleep in her car in her garage and doesnt remember driving there.

so she then started catching a bus and kept waking up after her stop.

so now her family drive her and pick her up.

I have driven past my junction and the next and the next until I was 30 miles away in the wrong direction and had to turn around.

I have also put desiel in my motorbike after a night shift, that didn't go down well I realised before I started it up but still had to wait for recovery to come and drain the tank which took 2 hours.

alsorts, doesn't help that I don't usually get to bed after doing my nightshift, as i do split ones so i can fit it in with the kids and hubbys job. Last week I took the kids into town and nearly walked out of a shop without paying for something !!!!!!!!!!! not a good thing to do when you are planing to apply for a greencard!!!!!

Usually i just stay at home though, and do daft things around the house

I used to stay up when the kids were little, often woke up as my coffee tipped into my lap on the settee!! Once I dozed off with my legs across my toddler so I would feel if she moved but woke up in a white cloud, jumped up thinking the house was on fire only to see the little madam puffing baby powder all around the living room

I drove home on the highway southbound side going southbound, unforntuanatly to get home I was suppose to be going northbound. It took me two exits to figure it out. Needless to say I got off and grabbed a hot cocoa before getting back on. :)

I have driven home and had no recollection of how i got home..

made a mug of tea and then been unable to find it because I'd put in the fridge next to the milk..

went to pub with my parents for lunch after a 10 night stretch and fell asleep on my mums shoulder.. she was not impressed.

oh.. I'm also the only person I know who has ever slept in on night duty.. woke up 2130 and should have been on duty at 2045.. night sister didnt believe me when i said I'd slept in!

I always have conversation and totally forget them.

Yesterday I put some washing in the machine with no soap.

I drive on 4motorways to get home (it's about 40miles to work!) and I often forget which one I'm on and have to wait for an exit to figure it out.

Often fall asleep in the car...naughty and scary.

Had to go and pick up my new glasses on Tuesday morning and the poor girl was asking me about my thoughts on them 'do you think they are tight enough, will they fall off your head?' 'do you like the style?' I was totally exhausted as it was my 1st night and I'd been up over 24hrs. Just said 'I've just come off a night shift and I have no idea-just do whatever you think is best'. She was a bit shocked.

On last months nights I bought some milk on my way home, I put my purse in the fridge and the milk in my bag, this run of nights was worse.

I have just finished my run of nights...I'm on roation to another area at the moment but went back to my base ward after handover to check my post.

They were still giving report and I sat down, and started taking notes!

I don't think anyone realised that I was so tired i was prepared to stay for the early!

oh dear :lol2:

the bet advice i can give to anyone is 'after working a night shift, dont sign anything legally binding especially a contract
