OK, I have scrapped the bucket now. I had 4 nights shifts, day off (sleep day, but counted as day off) then 2 late shifts. Today, on my day off I took my daughter to McDonalds. After eating I tried to get out of the car park and ended up the wrong way in the drive in!!!Lots of tooting of car horns and one very red face (mine). Of course, daughter who is taking driving lessons has promised not to mention this to anyone ho ho ho.
Has anybody else done daft things after night shifts?
i've fallen asleep at a stoplight, my foot slid off the clutch and my car lurched into the middle of the intersection. i woke up to horns honking . . . .
fell asleep on the streetcar -- woke up after it turned into the subway and then the train . . . in the next state!
hung up on my father because i thought he was an obscene caller. (i asked him who was calling, and he answered -- expecting me to recognize his voice, i'm sure -- "i used to change your diapers.")
had a long conversation with someone wanting to sell me something and totally forgot about it until they called back when i was awake.
drove 24 hours straight to get to our vacation spot in florida while my husband snored beside me in the passanger seat. got to georgia and couldn't see straight anymore. let hubby drive (this was the stupid part -- letting him drive since he was a lousy driver and couldn't read a map). told him just stay on the interstate and we'll be there in 2 hours. woke up four hours later on a dirt road in alabama. "i never turned," he claimed. uh -- evidently the road did! i should have checked into a hotel rather than let him drive!
Ihave done a lot of silly things like you have after a night shift but I did something really sill towards the end of my night shift the other day....I helped a colleague of mine remove a suture from someone's back and after went to wash my hands and I stood there for a moment lathering the soap up until I realised I still had my gloves on!!!!! (it was my first night and I had been up almost 24 hours!!!)
After Night shift I have-1.-Drove the wrong way on one way street.
2.-Put the laundry in the trash instead of the washer.
3.-Had no recolection of how I got home.
and the stupidist-
4.- Went grocery shopping and put the eggs in the freezer instead of the fridge.
At least you didn't put the trash in the laundry!!
the thing that scares me sooo much about this whole topic is that we are dangerous when driving home after a night shift!!
have know 2 nurses who've crashed their cars driving home. both cars totaled. one was hurt, the other one hit those trash bin things full of water, so was ok, but older car--
be careful!!!
