I would recommend taking grad level education courses in curriculum and teaching techniques to anyone entering the classroom environment.

No, I'm thinking of 'authentic assessment' in terms of assessing / evaluating student performance in the clinical and theory settings. The Higher Learning Commission is encouraging that we get away from multiple choice types of evaluating student learning. I am finding very little in the nursing literature, but there is a lot to be found in the education arena.

My colleagues and I discussing the concept ofauthentic assessment and how it may or may not apply to nursing education. Is anyone using authentic assessment in the education process?

When I was doing my NP practicum, I also worked as a clinical instructor. Comparing the two roles side by side, it was an easy choice for me to see that my talents were best applied to education. You might try to do something similar. I do feel that anyone who is teaching should complete the course work specific to nursing education. NP and nurse educator degrees are complementary, but not interchangeable.

I'm sure it can vary from one body to another. In higher ed, 50 min is the standard.

A contact hour equals 50 minutes of classroom time. Some facilities pay and others do not.
