Clarification:
For those who may have come on board recently -- be aware that the first video shown in this link is from last year, during the initial legal dispute over whether or not UCSF Benioff Oakland could be compelled to perform a tracheotomy or other procedures.

Anytime that debate starts it's taken over by "right to life"ers and the disabled screaming their "slippery slope" song at the tops of their lungs. This particular case certainly triggers strong reactions while others briefly appear in the news and disappear. It's interesting.
I believe the only reason this case is so popular is because of Obamacare.
Many people were using this case as an example of a death panel, esp the anchors at Fox News.
UK standards are more strict than US. This patient is brain dead in US or UK. I don't know why this is so difficult for you to comprehend and accept
Ok,she is dead.
I am speaking of some other pts of mine who would meet the UK criteria.
Off topic i know.
I wonder if the initial event had happened in NJ if we would have heard of her.
Probably not,as mom would have said it is against her religious beliefs,so she would not have been tested in the first place.

The. "Religious beliefs" of this family did not appear until after the second brain death declaration. You need to declare your objection before the medical team declares brain death in NY & NJ.
UK criteria is irrelevant as we are not in the UK.

Which UK criteria would half your patients meet?

Which Fox News anchors have discussed the story? I must have missed it, so I'd like to look for the archives. I'm not sure what this case has to do with Obamacare. I don't believe dead people are covered by ACA. The funding for somatic support has been provided by private donors. I believe the reason the story is so compelling is that it is extremely macabre, bizarre and the family's behaviour has been nothing short of shocking. In this day and age, it takes a lot to shock the general public. This story does it.

Death Panels actually do exist... if you're Black...
Daily Kos is a well known extremely left-wing site. I posted that because of the Fox News accusation....which still hasn't been substantiated.

This just out...however it is based on the previous claim made this fall....may confuse some who may think that there is new evidence of purposeful movement and brain activity...

This is complete trash! A "death panel"? Obviously no one researched this. She had EEG silence, no blood flow to the brain, no functional brain structure on MRI, no reflexes at all on bedside exam, and failed an apnea test. Done by 4 (or was it 5?) Drs over several days time. If she had even the slightest cornea reflex, or the tiniest eeg pattern to show a working brain they wouldn't have diagnosed brain death. Terry Shiavo was pvs, not dead. She was breathing on her own. Disconnect Jahi's vent and if she lives in a vegetative state for the next 15 years like Shiavo did, then so be it! This article makes it sound like the only difference between them was black and white and that is ridiculous!
I believe whoever wrote that bogus bunch of trash is just as brain dead as Jahi is!

Ok, now this is one of the funniest things I've read in quite awhile!
