Crazy Organization Lately Anyone?

Published

I don't know if this is just me - but I've been in hyper overdrive cleaning/throwing away/needing a place for everything and for everything to be functional mode lately. This week has been the worst. Orientation is Thursday and school starts the following Monday I believe - so I feel like if my house isn't spotless and a good schedule is in place, it'll be in total shambles.

It's just me and my husband and our dogs - but I'm the type that can't relax when there is clutter everywhere and everything is a mess. I'm terrified that once I'm busy with school and homework that will occupy a lot of my time, if my house and myself aren't organized like crazy - everything will fall apart.

I know I won't want to spend my weekends cleaning all day, so I'm trying to get it all totally cleaned up and organized now so cleanup is easy.

Has anyone else been doing this? Or am I the only oddball out there, lol?

:) I've been doing the same thing and its only me and the dogs.

Yesterday I cleaned out my pantry, threw away all the expired cans. And cleaned out the fridge and freezer.

Last week I vacuumed baseboards and rearranged the furniture in the livingroom.

Every time I walk in the garage I look around for something to throw away LOL

I might just get into cleaning out my closet today ;)

I started doing the same thing earlier this summer but then realized I'd rather spend my time with my husband and friends relaxing. My house is definitely not as clean and organized as it should be, but I'm okay with it. I'm going to be so busy with school when it starts next week, cleaning will not be a priority. I figure I'll give the house a good scrub down during Christmas break!

Oh, you are not alone! I was laid off last September and started nursing school in January. I spent the ENTIRE TIME, 8 hours/day, going through my house, throwing stuff away, putting stuff aside for a garage sale, setting up my office, painting a couple of rooms in my house, making my schedule just so I could focus on nursing school.

I can tell you that it did help for the most part. At least I could find things that I could never find before like batteries, keys, and all those small things that are a PITA to find when they don't have a place. And I ended up with over $250 at the garage sale!

Haha, when I lost my job, I did the same thing! At one point, my husband came home from work and found me vacuuming the basement walls! I'm not sure what was going on with me, but my house was never cleaner!!

And, I'll have you people know, that after I responded to this post earlier, I went on a cleaning spree! I guess you inspired me. I dusted the fans, cleaned windows, vacuumed the baseboards in the master bedroom. I'm breaking for lunch, then getting back to my cleaning. My husband will thank you when he gets home. :lol2:

Haha! Well I am glad it's not just me! I feel guess my thought process is that life will be so much easier during NS if my husband and I just have a quickie maintenance routine during school.

My biggest enemy is clutter! My scrapbook area and office share the same room and I don't know if any of you all have that set up - but it can get messy QUICK. When that room was just for artsy type stuff I loved having inspiration all around, but now that it's time for studying and focus - all that extra seems distracting, yuck.

I have read that the basket system is good. I got a big wicker basket from Target that I keep in my living room. Now any "junk" that I don't have time to put back will go there instead of all over my counter tops. Whenever I have a free second I can start putting things back where they belong without staring at my cluttered up house :).

Good luck to all you ladies with your organizing!!!

I always do a major cleaning/organizing before school starts, but I also find that a cleaning project usually ends up being my distraction mid-semester when I really deep down don't want to study for something. I'll convince myself that life simply cannot go on until the baseboards are clean, or the linen closet is organized or whatever is convenient. It's a sad, sad mental state brought on my stress...or at least that's my story & I'm stickin' to it!! :)

When the house is messy I just get so distracted, angry, misearble, depressed and don't feel like doing anything productive. When the house is clean I feel great and want to study more.

I have spent this past week cleaning like a crazy woman! :smokin: My house looks good (hubby wanted to know if I was sick!!) and I'm ready for classes to begin on Thursday. I go to school 3 days a week and work 2 (10 hr shifts) per week. I know cleaning will not be priority once school starts. Good luck to everyone this semester!

I went to hang out with my friends....came back 6 hours later and my family room was completely rearranged. Office, cleaned up, bedroom clean and kitchen reorganized.

I LOVE that my gf is starting nursing school and going through this mode too ha ha.

I can't do diddly until my work area is cleaned up. It's a compulsion, disease, whatever you want to call it. If the area is disorganized, so is my thinking. Drives me insane! It goes with a personality type, I think.

You know, I never thought of it as stress relief - but maybe it is my way of getting out all this nervous energy before orientation on Thursday. I've been worrying myself sick, so I think I'm distracting too with the excuse of cleaning is practical lol.
