CPNE this weekend 7-27 to 7-29

Published

Hello all

I am taking my CPNE this weekend - Any last minute advice or helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. I know my grid almost like the back of my hand. I get stuck and then am able to remember shortly after. I have been taking advantage of the phone consultations and have been e-mailing the CPNEinfo instructor.

Thanks everyone.

Grids & mnemonics are a definite necessity. Highlight and tab your care plan handbook with the most common Nsg Dx's. Do not use "risk for infection" for patients on antibiotics. Remember to shake your patient's hand or touch his/her shoulder as you introduce yourself. Make sure to tell the patient what you will be doing for them and why. Don't forget to evaluate your patients' responses to your implementations, and change your care plan accordingly. And, remember to verbalize everything you do to the CE, and mark off your grid as you go along. That way if the CE misses something, you have proof that you did it. Good luck!

Good luck! Memorizing your grid and mneonmics (sp?) is most of the battle. The rest is managing stress. You can do this!

I go the following weekend so keep up with the tips.

I just passed this past weekend with no repeats. Make sure your grid covers the critical elements easily so you can look at them and know you've covered everything. I wrote my critical elements next to the areas where I can chart for easy access. Do each assessment(critical element) seperate and chart on it seperately. I asked the CE a million questions during all my PCS's and they will let you know if they can or can not answer. Good luck, you can do it!!!!!!

good luck to you. please post your experience ..you can do it

Good luck. And I agree with the advise above, especially the asking questions part, the worse they can do is say, "The CPNE is not an educational experience and I cannot answer that question." But once they know your question, look for unconscious cues from them during your assessments. Really, if you know your mnemonics on this you'll be fine. Be friendly (but not a kiss butt) and real. They know you're stressed. If you're not they may be more concerned about you! After it was said and done and I had shed MANY painful, panicked tears after failing one of the PCS's, I hugged each of my CE's in gratitude in the confernece room. They were great!!! Be genuine, don't try to come off like you're all that. (Not that you will), but humility goes a loooooooong way, or did for me!

Do exactly what is assigned i.e. if you are assigned a radial pulse and it is weak and you get an apical pulse instead make sure you say you can't get it and ask permission to take it apically. I failed one PCS for this reason. :uhoh3:

Specializes in med/surg- sub-acute, LTC,ICU,.

Good luck to you!! just remember to take a deep breath, think before you do anything , take your time and do it right , smile, and wash those hands-lol! you will be great.
