A man in Canada has punched a nurse in the face for giving his wife a Covid vaccine.

Just wondering what sort of abuse has other nurses suffered from the public or even patients and it doesn't have to be just giving Covid vaccines.

Man punches Nurse for giving his wife a vaccine!

If the hospitals and other institutions had our backs and there were enough communication that any violence towards staff would be prosecuted, it wouldn't happen.

I have a great radar for knowing people's personalities and also because of my size, people naturally disavow themselves of any tendency to violence against me, but I see it happening to my colleagues and their reactions because of the institution's 'like' policies. I think not only are the perpetrators orificeholes to begin with and usually pick on a perceived weaker staff member but management reactions aren't helpful in being cautionary enough!

I'm not there to be liked. I want to be professional and friendly enough to put my patients at ease re interactions, procedures or teaching and distant enough to discourage transference issues.

No offense intended, but too many female nurses get confused with their femininity and job description. They tolerate too much and when they react, it appears to be a sliding scale balancing act of, will my reaction be disliked too much instead of 'No' I will not put up with this or just over the top completely. Again I blame the institutions for these reactions. I think if those victims felt secure enough of the institution's backing, it would give them bolstering courage to project, ' I'm not a victim and you will be prosecuted and sued' personas!

How many walk into a police station and decide to be violent? Why should it be tolerated in a hospital?

I don’t think the police knows his identity or address.

Yes, it occurred to me after I posted that nothing specifies that he barged into the pharmacy in the context of a named customer...just that he barged in there and was mad about something that happened at a time unknown to law enforcement, involving an unnamed someone. ?

You are correct.

Nurses should report assaults to law enforcement.

In case there is anyone ever reading this who does not know:

HIPAA explicitly permits disclosure of PHI for the purpose of reporting a crime in which you (the nurse) are the victim. The following is copied from hhs.gov Q&A about when covered entities may disclose info to law enforcement:

Quote

To respond to a request for PHI for purposes of identifying or locating a suspect, fugitive, material witness or missing person; but the covered entity must limit disclosures of PHI to name and address, date and place of birth, social security number, ABO blood type and rh factor, type of injury, date and time of treatment, date and time of death, and a description of distinguishing physical characteristics. Other information related to the individual’s DNA, dental records, body fluid or tissue typing, samples, or analysis cannot be disclosed under this provision, but may be disclosed in response to a court order, warrant, or written administrative request (45 CFR 164.512(f)(2)).

This same limited information may be reported to law enforcement:

About a suspected perpetrator of a crime when the report is made by the victim who is a member of the covered entity’s workforce (45 CFR 164.502(j)(2));

Strange ad popping up.

You're not alone. Sorry about the off topic but I've been getting that occasionally also. It's like one of the ads that runs at the side of the page jumps to a full page pop--up ad but it only happens when I hit the next page button and it doesn't happen all the time.

There is no excuse for the violence tolerated by hospitals.

Two of the most common rationales are complete fabrications.  Mental illness and impairment.

While mental illness can affect prosecution, it is not a free pass.  Right or wrong, our jails are filled with mentally ill.

Obviously impairment is not a get out of jail card, or DUI wouldn't be a thing- the cops would just call you an Uber.

In figuring out whether pressing charges is appropriate, ask a simple question:  If this happened to a Walmart employee, or wait staff, would the perpetrator be arrested.  If the patient was discharged, and attacked somebody in the parking lot, what would the police do?

Man charged in Md. triple-slaying was angry because brother gave coronavirus vaccines, police allege

Quote

A Maryland man was angry with his pharmacist brother for administering coronavirus vaccines before he killed his brother, sister-in-law and a family friend in a triple homicide that led to a police manhunt, investigators allege in court documents.
Jeffrey Burnham, 46, of Cumberland had previously told his mother that he wanted to confront his older brother, Brian Robinette, about what he claimed was the government poisoning people with the shots, according to court documents filed in Howard County District Court.
“Brian knows something!” he repeatedly said to her, according to the documents first reported by Baltimore-area news outlets.
Burnham is accused of fatally shooting his 58-year-old brother in the front foyer of his Ellicott City home on Sept. 30 and killing his brother’s wife, Kelly Robinette, 57, in an upstairs bedroom, police said.

The propaganda is having a very negative effect on people.

He was probably mentally ill, but the propaganda may have directed his violence toward his brother rather than to self harm or other target. Tragic.

Gets Covid, hospitalized, gets expensive monoclonal tx and then rants about vaccines!

Should have let nature take its course! Now that he's received tx and saved, he should be personally liable for the costs of everything! From the ambulance to his stay in the hospital.

Why should tax payers pick up the bill for a moron?

I've asked these questions before, although not to you specifically, and not gotten a response:

  1. Who exactly should we be withholding treatment from?
  2. Which patients specifically should we withhold payment for their treatment?
  3. And, most importantly, who makes these decisions?

I'll make the decisions. And anyone who hasn't taken the vaccine over eighteen, you get covid, then deal with it yourself or whatever rationale you subscribe to.

I need to cull the stupid herd! This freedom *** is only applicable to people who demonstrates the ability to understand freedom and its implications!

If you choose to live in society, then you obey the rules and laws of the society or be banished to Texas or Florida etc.

I propose making Texas and other republican states, the penal states for habitual criminals. The blue states foot the bill for everything anyway since we are the most educated and productive. If you want to catfish noodle or go to Nascar etc., move to Texas etc so that you won't be inconvenienced by long journeys and you can be with your own people! You shouldn't have to put up with us liberals with out law abiding ways, educated civilized behaviors and work ethics!
