Anyone want to hazard a guess at to what the "number of other ingredients" might have been? ?

I'm not too keen on the chloroform, but the rest of it sounds like it would do the trick. I'd wake up three days later, on earth or in heaven, and presto! Cough is gone!

How many remember Paregoric? It was available OTC in the US until 1970. My mother rubbed it on her babies' gums when they were teething.

I read somewhere that women in the olden days used to drink cough syrup to get their share of alcohol (because it was un-ladylike for them to purchase alcohol or go to pubs). Now I understand why!

I also am wondering about the chloroform...really?...what was that for, sleep?
As if the alcohol and morphine weren't enough.
