There is allot of discussion on news media bias. I thought I would start a topic dedicated to this. I find the best way to gather information of any topic is to read various sources of different political leanings.
To start the conversation, I'll submitt this news story.
A headline from Fox News and one from MDNSBC. Note the different headlines and contents.

What's unsaid is as important what is said; the stories that are selected to run reflect bias. We all GET IT. This is high school stuff. I am delighted that you are thinking about the subject, but it's time to move on to topics less basic.
It such "high school stuff" that there is entire websites devoted to bias news awareness. Allsides, Ground News including several other sorces cited here. etc etc.
Do you not believe that people took Fox news as not being bias and continued to believe the lie about the election?
Many people do not realize the media they consume is bias. Hence believing false information. Do you think the media you consume is not bias? Or you have not believed false bias news? Cuz you "learned it in high-school"?

Actually, I learned it in junior high. No one here has even hinted that there's any such thing as unbiased media. It's impossible.
So - how do you propose to solve the problem of discerning the truth from what is available from public media?

Seeking out several different sources. Reconize your own bias and be willing to be wrong or have your mind changed.
Allsides is a good resource.

I have reconized my own bias. Perhaps it did. However it was not about Trump, it was a critique of the media. As I have stated over and over.
Do you think your inability to accept that I wasn't defending Trump or whatever you feel is due to your bias?
heron said:Odd that you didn't mention the "sniff test" or critical thinking.
What is "sniff test"? I'm not familiar with that terminology.
What's wrong with critical thinking? Do you not use critical thinking in your nursing practice?

Yes. I've said repeatedly that you couldn't specify how the article was biased. You keep repeating that part about defending Trump for some reason rather than actually talking about your claim that the article was trying to associate Trump with white supremacy or that it was inflammatory or fallacy to identify Fuentes as a white supremacist. You are welcome to consider my persistence in asking you to explain your opinion an example of my bias. Are your feelings about the article an example of your bias?
You are likely younger that some of us and are unfamiliar with older colloquialisms. The sniff test is basically using common sense. That seems to be less common today as people believe all manner of crazy or stupid stuff that pops up in their social media or gets repeated on the radio or their favorite podcast. Or maybe their favorite cable news platform is spreading the crazy stuff. Similarly, you might have noticed during the pandemic that critical thinking was often set aside for personal or political beliefs.
Some of us use critical thought in all aspects of our lives.

I did not say Fuentes was a supremacist or not. I did not say Trump was or not. I said the media peice failed to provide evidence that Trump knew this person was coming or who this person was. My opinion was the article was trying to insinuate Trump is a supremacist or sympathizer. I cannot quote because I no longer have access to the article as I showed you in a screen shot. Did you see it?
It would have been better if they would have included Ye's and Fuentes comments. You obviously do not agree, I obviously don't agree with you. When does it stop?
I'm not sure about the preoccupation with my "feelings". Other than to somehow try and devalue my comments as emotional and there for not rational. I imagine you think it's clever. Do you see how bias it is to demand quotes when you could not quote my comment that you claimed I made? With "im not playing that game"?
When you make the comment about crazy media etc, do you reconize that its not just what you deem "conservative, right wing media" that does this?
Do you have a grandiose sense of superiority that sets you above anyone else?
Critical thought also includes not making -pre-concieved assumptions and considering that you might be wrong.
Why do you talk about my age? You have no idea. You are making an assumption I am young.

If you don't know what something is. look it up. The sniff test is part of critical thinking so that would be a logic error to think that anyone was criticizing critical thinking. And going back to my "vulgarity" as you called it regarding the shape of Trump's member: we were all forced to read about this vulgarity in the national news because the majority of Americans didn't have any critical thinking skills and that was the point. He coorificened the entire political culture, and here we are. Anyone who was skeptical and spent an hour of their time researching him before they voted for him, would have to include that this is a defective human being and we should run away from him and his ilk. The evidence was overwhelming but we are an incurious nation.
