Comments about clinical rotation.

isn't it wonderful to hear of nurses who give their all and "we" see it first hand. continue to enjoy and learn!

I have seen both ends of the spectrum. The nurses who love nursing and allow me to help with their duties. I have also come face to face with the ones that are unhappy and cranky....seems like they just want to destroy nursing as a profession. Bless the one's that take us under their wings....they are truly special!!!

I'm so glad you are having a great clinical experience. I was one of the only expereinced LPNs in my RN program. I worked in hospice for 4 years as an LPN, and really enjoyed it, experienced a lot, learned a lot.

This nurse sounds great!

Hospice nursing is tough, but it is a very special kind of nursing. Not very many can do it well.

I think it takes a special person to do hospice nursing, and congrats to you for doing it. The nurses at the hospice facility where my uncle died were such a comfort to my family.

Anyway, glad you are enjoying your clinicals and have the privilege of working with a wonderful nurse. I still haven't got to start mine for the semester. (SNOW!!!)

I certainly will tell her. I tell her when I see her doing something special, and I ask a lot of "why did you do it that way" questions. She is so patient.

I myself am having a wonderful clinical experience. My clinical instructor is patient, kind, and lets us check off on skills on the unit so we don't have to check off for our techniques class.

I talked to a lot of people who hated their med-surg rotation, but I am enjoying the experience of seeing so many different kinds of patients.

I am so happy to hear that you are having a good clinical experience. Nobody wants to become burnt out or frustrated before they even hit the floor as an RN!

I started my next to last rotation about 3 weeks ago, and ended up in Hospice for my Home Health rotation. I am the only one in the class who wanted to go to Hospice. I am also the only LPN in the class, and most likely the only one who has experienced a patient death.

The nurse who is mentoring me is so totally awesome I can't believe it. She has the most gentle bedside manner I have ever seen in a nurse. She is also no-nonsense, and up front with all the information with the families and the patients, and to watch her in action is a great privilege. Her ability to switch gears in mid stream is fantastic, and she is basically unflappable.

I am learning so much, and she has been so patient with my stupid and redundant questions.

I'd like to do this kind of nursing eventually, after I have some other experience under my belt.

Several of my classmates were placed in hospice for our community health rotation. It was my first choice, too, but I was placed working with teen moms in a high school setting. I'm really excited to get started. I hope I can make a really positive difference in these girls' lives. :heartbeat

Lucky you! I would love to do a hospice rotation!! I've only had 4 clinicals so far but by second one was in the OR. It was awesome!!!!!! So exciting and a really cool atmosphere.
