Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.
Anyone else?!
DivaliciousMe85, I was able to speak with them this morning. They said as long as you have started the process of getting the hep b shots (2 shots completed) then it is no problem. You would likely get the last shot during the summer/beginning of the program. What did they say regarding the dates and whether or not you have them?
You are all amazing, this information is so helpful, Thank you. I am coming out from Oakland with my partner for the new student day. My plan is to rent a 2 or 3 bedroom in Washington Heights in late April early May and find a couple of roommates. Im planning on setting up about a half dozen appointments to check out apartments the day after the orientation. Anyone that is interested in checking out what Washington heights apts and neighborhoods look like feel free to tag along. Im hoping to keep my portion of rent under $1000 hopefully closer to $800 but to be honest with the cost of the program a few thousand more, over the length of the program, to have a cool, cozy spot near campus would be worth it for me. One of my closest friends did this program a few years ago and strongly recommended Washington heights not only because of the proximity and price, but really enjoyed the neighborhood. I get a lot from studying with others so i hope to land housing with a few more ETP's going through the same insanity as me. Hit me up if any of you are interested [email protected]
Congrats again!!!!

That's great! I'm glad to hear it'll work out. They told me as long as my titer shows I'm immune, that's all that matters.
I remember seeing somewhere on the Columbia site there is discount for public transit. I just don't recall how much, or where exactly on the site I saw it. When I find it I can post the link.madley, your public transit breakdown is incredibly helpful! Are there any sort of student discounts - either through the transit system itself, or through Columbia?
UPDATE: I found this link, but it seems to only be regarding discount for NJ transit
I was looking on MTA website, and I couldn't find anything about discounted MTA unless you're disabled or elderly.
Snoozyd, unfortunately the only student discounts offered through the MTA are for nyc high school students.
Sometimes you can buy discounted metrocards directly from a university (when I was at undergrad at NYU, they sold them at a SMALL discount at the bookstore--but I don't know Columbia's policy.)
bonus--once we get hired by a hospital or clinic after the ETP year, most employers offer TransitCheck, which is a monthly unlimited metrocard that is automatically taken out of your paycheck once a month pre-tax
so it sounds like the fb group was created so students can get connected with each other. this googledoc can only be accessed by sharing the link, so maybe it can be posted in the fb group after someone checks it out? i put in a lot of columns.. not sure if it's too much...

I think the 25k grant was given along with any merrit scholarships in terms of "free money" all other packages are given are dependent on your information from FAFSA. As undergrad students we may have to look into private loans though....
