Has anyone started a thread yet? The application is due in 174 days and as you can see I'm already obsessing.
Anyone else?!
Hi vickypve -- I'm sorry for the delay! I went by first choice being a single -- in either tower, or bard hall. My second choice is roommates in a suite or studio, and I am open to anywhere as long as I'm in a dorm, which I think might be cheaper and easier for me since I don't know the area too well. If worse comes to worse, I will consider off campus housing, with anyone looking for a roommate!
Columbia emailed us and said that estimated cost is ~84,000 for BSN. However, NYU is more I think. Go to NYU's website and look up tuition for the Accelerated BSN: NYU > Office of the Bursar > Tuition/Fees > Fall and Spring > College of Nursing (Undergraduate).
It's 21,873 x 3 (fall, spring, fall) AND $1289 per credit for the summer sessions (15 credits)= 84954, which does not include student fees per semester. Here's a link to the curriculum so you can see how many semesters + summer credits: https://nursing.nyu.edu/sites/default/files/Fall%20Start%20Fifteen-Month%20B.S.%20Curriculum.pdf.
Hey! it really depends on where you are from. On-campus housing is reserved for out-of-state students and replacements are limited. I am from L.A., and I submitted my application the day after they sent out an email about on-campus housing (march-ish I think). I got my placement mid-April. But always have a plan B just in case you don't get a room.
**sorry guys allnurses won't let me send private message yet. ask me here.

One more question (I promise)!!! If you don't mind me asking how is the financial burden? Does Columbia try to help out as much as they can with financial aid or did you have to look elsewhere for loans and such?
Don't worry, keep asking, I was on the same boat last year. I know it is a tough decision but you will do great wherever you go
Estimated Total Budget (class of 2014) as follow (expect 3% increase in tuition each year):
-Tuition $77320 (sum:$25280 Fall:$24738 Spring:$27342)
-Transcript fee (it's a one time fee) $105
-Fees (err idk what that is but is mandatory) $150
-Technology fee $150
-Computer fee $555
-Health service fee (this one you CAN'T waive it) $1414
-Room & board (if you live at Bard Hall = $800-900; the towers $900-1000; non-campus apartment $1000-1400ish) $24000
-books & supplies $1250 (I didn't buy any books, you don't really need them unless you like reading, things you need to know for exams are on powerpoint slides)
-transportation $1344
-Health Insurance fee (you CAN waive it if your insurance is comparable to the school's one) $4390
-Person Expenses $3600
TOTAL: 114278
Columbia SON does try to help you out with finances as much as they can, the financial aid people are very helpful too. I heard most students in my class got the need-based $25000 scholarships. There are other private scholarships that offer $10000 to New Yorkers and minorities that I am not eligible to apply, check those out on columbia SON website! My financial burden is heavy but management. My finances were covered by the 25K scholarship, fed subsidized and unsubsidized loans, parents PLUS plans, underguad nursing student loans offered by columbia SON, fed Perkins loan (this one you don't need to pay back once you work as a nurse), an outside scholarship, and some family contribution. Despite the big number, I personally think going to Columbia is worth it. :)
Thanks! This was very helpful because I wondered if Perkns and CUSON loans were available.

I think there is no such thing as too much. It should be like a match.com profile questionnaire. Ha ha. Thanks for doing that.
