  1. I also received a "Columbia Nursing Decision Now Available"...for a minute I panicked!
  2. 70% get a scholarship from the school in the amount of $10k, $15k or $25k. You can also get up to $25 in federal loans.
  3. They sent them out on Thursday. They said at the visiting day they may be postponed if the government picks up on discrepancies in your fafsa.
  4. Count me in!
  5. It depends on the buidling. If it's steam heat it is usually included in the rent. I think the same for oil. You don't pay for regular water in Manhattan although you have to in the outer boroughs. Someone correct me if I am mistaken.
  6. Two things I would recommend when looking for buildings: washer/dryer in the basement and a live-in super.
  7. I have a one bedroom on a lovely street for $1800/month. It was rent stabilized when I moved in so the price hasn't gone up as much as it might otherwise.
  8. I've lived in Morningside Heights for years. It's a great neighborhood and only about 15 minutes on the train. Columbia is here, lots of restaurants. Easy access to the west side on the 1 train. I would not recommend you bring a car to school unless you can afford to keep it in a garage. You can't just leave it parked on the street because they the clean the streets twice a week and you have to move it. Feel free to ask any questions.
  9. There is a large parking garage but I'm not sure how much it costs. Probably not cheap but it would be hard to find on street parking in the neighborhood.
  10. Undergrad GPA: 3.4 Grad GPA: 3.9 Prereq GPA: 3.6 MSW in clinical mental health experience in a variety of psych settings: supportive therapy, CBT, day program (in Israel), inpatient psych, psychosocial rehab/clubhouse 4 years as hospice volunteer exempt from GRE 1 outstanding reference from a former professor, others I assume were fine (from volunteer supervisors)
  11. In for Psych! I'm thrilled!
  12. I've lived in Morningside Heights for about 10 years. It's a nice neighborhood (Columbia is here) and only about 15 minutes on the train.
  13. Thanks for the encouragement! Best of luck in your new position.
  14. Thanks for the feedback! I am going to be applying to direct entry programs. Hopefully something will pan out.
  15. Hello all, I have a masters in social work and am looking to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I am hoping this will be an opportunity to expand upon my SW background. My concentration in SW school was clinical/mental health and I did well academically. I have SW experience on an inpatient psych unit and a day treatment program. I have also worked as a psychotherapist. Also, in college I worked at a residential tx center for troubled kids and I volunteered on a psych research project and am planning to do this again this coming fall. I volunteer for hospice, as well. I think this makes me a relatively competitive applicant (but I'm not sure!). There are a few issues. After graduating from SW school I went to law school but around halfway through I developed an illness that precluded my continuing on. This was 2007. I was in treatment on and off for the next several years. When I was ready to enter the job market (I was taking the prereqs at this time) I found it very hard to find a job but have worked as an office manager for the last year. Anyway, does anyone have any thoughts? socialwrkr
