Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.

C'mon now!

Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.

C'mon now!

The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.

All together: C'mon now!!

Some things just make me shake my head.

Even told me I had no idea how many students were in school with Covid right now because "parents talk".

Soooo...because other parents are knowingly sending their child to school with a pandemic virus, then you to are allowed to send your child in to infect even more students with said pandemic virus?

Right. It is a law in our state now that the school must be notified within 24-hours of receiving a positive, BY PARENTS. So, if they're breaking the law, that's on them. I let him know after he said "you wouldn't know anything about me if I hadn't told you" that he told us because he was doing the right thing and keeping the rest of our students and staff safe. UGGHHH.

Had an older elementary student who was tired of the class being too loud for the substitute teacher so she/he pulled the plastic adjuster piece off their face mask and stuck it in their ear.  <UGH!> By the time they came to see me the entire ear was hot, red, and swollen exteriorly.  <Double UGH!>

A 1st grade ELL student was brought to me just now as his teacher discovered his ENTIRE lower face was dyed green from "Brilliant Green". No one knew because he had his mask on all day!

I suspect that he has impetigo, but it's all crusted over and well, green, so difficult to assess. His parents are from Eastern Europe and this is a common topical antiseptic, as I've read.

4th grade boy comes in pretty frantic: Look at my arm! It's bright pink. It's hot. It's super, super itchy!

Me: Lemme see...?

4th: ? it's not funny. It really itches! I could be having an allergic reaction

Me: ooorrr...it could be pink highlighter?

4th: ? oh

I have a class out quarantining.  I emailed to check in & give a reminder of return date.  A parent said "we went away this weekend for a sports tournament, can we return on the original day or do we need to quarantine for travel?"  You sent your kid to a sports tournament...during their quarantine?  Oh. My.

GUYS!  Now I've been updated by that teacher that all the kids today (who are still quarantined) were chatting about how they went on weekend trips last weekend.  Too bad our local health department doesn't follow through on fines for violations.  TGIF

cmon!

This happens to me ALL. THE. TIME.

For elementary kids, I often wonder if there is a bus situation making them hesitant to get on the bus.

Kids in morning athletics (and their parents who support the behavior). Well enough to attend practice, too sick to go to math 2nd period!! But, I leave in an area where sports ARE THE PRIORITY!

My bathroom is supposed to be for adult use only (unless there is a medical/behavioral necessity) this year. Our 2nd grade class has co-opted it, but they always call to make sure the office is clear of other students/I am in the office before sending someone down, so I've let it slide.

This afternoon however, I suddenly had a stream of 1st graders come in with water bottles in-hand, with no phone call. I asked the first one if he wanted to leave the water bottle outside on the counter, and he says to me "No, I need to bring it in here to take a sip..." I then notice the bathroom in the hall outside my office also has a stream of 1st graders with H20.

I put 2 & 2 together - we're returning to full, in-person learning next week, with the caveat that no one is to remove their masks unless strict 6ft distancing is maintained. The 1st grade teacher has decided that that means any student who wishes to take a sip of water, must bring said water bottle to the tiny, unventilated bathroom, shut the door, and remove their mask to take a sip in the bathroom.

Can you imagine??!?
