Class of 2015

Published

Congrats to all those that are accepted and will be the class of 2015. I thought it would be nice to have our own thread where we can support each other along our journey. Mine is an ADN program, but I know some will be BSN as well.

With all that aside has anyone had their nursing orientation yet? How was it? What are some of the costs you have to dish out? Did it finally sink in that you will be starting nursing school soon?

Mine isn't until May 29th 9a-3p. I do know that our tops will be white and our bottoms will be green. I also know we are required to have an iPad which is included in our financial aid. I also know I have to pay $66.00 just for the drug test. The program pays for our in state CORI/SORI but I had to pay for my out of state one which was $31.00. I just payed for that today. We will be required to buy the books, stethoscope, name pin, uniforms, warm up jacket, lab coat, and more. So exciting. We will also schedule our classes on orientation day.

Lets get to know each other so we can support each other :)

So what classes are you guys taking in your first semester? I figure they are about the same but I'm curious. I'm taking pharmacology, fundamentals, and health assessment.

I completed all pre-req and co-req courses, so the only thing I have left are the actual nursing courses. I'll be taking Nursing Fundamentals I & II in the Fall (it's 2 courses concurrently). I'm probably going to take a Chem lab along with it, since I'm trying to knock out pre-reqs for grad school as well. I don't know if I can or not, since I don't know which section I'll be in yet.

I had to buy a required package from the school bookstore, about $1000. I looked up the books first on Amazon to see if I wanted to just buy the ebook package and the physical texts separately if I wanted them, but even used it was cheaper to buy from the bookstore. I can't wait to get them! 20 pounds? That's crazy!

So what classes are you guys taking in your first semester? I figure they are about the same but I'm curious. I'm taking pharmacology, fundamentals, and health assessment.

All my pre-reqs are done. Fundamentals of nursing, lab, clinicals thursday and friday 7a-1p (starts mid september-dec), pharmacology 1 (online only but there is one every semester), and role development 1.

We have about the same as far as first semester classes - fundamentals of nursing, pharmacology I, & med-surg with clinicals on Thur & Fri. There are about 15 books & amazon has them for a total cost of around $700ish. I have a hospital sponsorship that pays my tuition & $2000 towards books for the entire 2 year program. I'm hoping that by using Amazon & some e-text book options for the iPad I can get by without having to dig deeper into my pockets. I am definitely investing in a rolling backpack!

I want to be a women's health practitioner/midwifery. I heard it moves faster once the license is obtained.

Hello everyone! I'll be starting my ADN program in September! Our orientation is August 2nd so I don't have any information on that yet! Does anyone know what we should wear to orientation? I know, silly question but I wouldn't want to show up in jeans and a tshirt and be out of place.

As far as supplies we will have black tops and bottoms with a orange OSU patch on the tops, a black lab coat, white leather shoes, a iPad, a watch and stethoscope. Then we have to have a drug test, background check, CPR certification, and a physical. And of coorifice books lol.

Good luck to everyone!!

Hi Meggin J! I think we will be in the same class! I start at OSU Okmulgee in the fall ADN Program also. I feel like this is a stupid question but where are you getting your physical and immunizations/ titers done? I have been to my doctors office and the health clinic. Neither do titters or physicals. I wish our orientation was sooner!

Hi everyone, I will also be a 2015 graduate.. My nursing classes start on August 26th which will be the day of our 2nd nursing orientation.... My 1st orientation was on May 9th... We were given all of the information about the program, signed up for classes, choose the clinical sites that were closest to where we live, and tried on uniforms... We were also giving a list of books for the first semester this list includes 19 requires books totaling about $1,200 at our book store and also a list of recommended books.. Our bookstore sells most of the required books in bundle packages which is cheaper than buying them separately. I bought all the books that weren't bundled from amazon.com which save me about $100.. Our uniforms are all white and we have to buy the school patch from the bookstore and it has to be put on our left sleeve.... I bought the Greys Anatomy scrubs because they are super comfortable but a bit more expensive than most.... I'm going to be a hybrid nursing student so all of my lecture will be online and my labs will be on Wednesday evenings and all I my Clinicals with be on the weekends.... I am beyond excited to start, I've started reading my Fundamentals book in advance, and plan on covering as much as possible before the semester starts... Our first semester consists of Fundamentals, Basic Physical Assessment, and Nursing Perspectives... Best of luck to all of you!!!

Specializes in Endocrinology, hopefully.

Hi y'all! I'll be a 2015 graduate, too. I'm not "official" yet, but according to my the head of the nursing program my points on their scale are a sure thing (I was told that their cut off is between 175 and 185 on their scale of 250... I finished my prereqs/TEAS V with a points total of 212). Of course, I'll be biting my nails for the next few weeks while I wait for my official acceptance letter. LOL Applications are due by June 1, so I have some time to go (eek!). But, I'm gonna chime in here anyways. :)

I'm hoping that I'll have enough financial aid after tuition/books to get an iPad-- I think it'd be totally handy for school (and for downtime, ha)! I *think* our uniforms are plain white tops and pains with the school crest on the sleeve... Plain white shoes... We have to buy a "nursing bag" to the tune of $275. I'm assuming it's standard nursing stuff like our steth, BP cuff, scissors, etc? I'm planning to upgrade my steth to a Littman Classic, though I'll probably leave the other other stuff basic.

I'm 35. How old are y'all? I'm hoping that my lab partner from pre-reqs makes it into the program with me-- I think her points total was 177 so she's a bit more on the fence. She's just 19, though, so she said she's OK if she uses another semester to finish out pre-reqs (like sociology, ethics, etc that we'll use to bridge from ADN to BSN). I look forward to making new nursing friends!

I can't wait to start nursing school in the fall!!!

I'm starting a five semester BSN program in August. Our orientation is two days on the week before school starts. I had to pay for the fingerprints& background check when I submitted my application ($90). I have a lot to do this summer: physical, flu shot ($10) Tuberculosis skin test ($18), Meningitis booster, drug screen ($59), buy the ATI study guide & online assessment pkg by end of June ($408), CPR class next month ($21) scrubs ($200), lab kit ($185), good white shoes, stethoscope & BP cuff I got as a gift already (a nice Littmann Classic II SE), SNA dues ($45), books are estimated to cost $1000-$1200, but I am going to try to order mine online since it will cost less and It isn't completely vital that I have the ebooks. Tuition runs about $200 per credit hour plus the student fees and such. And don't forget the misc. things that we need including a clinical reference/clipboard combo they want us to have, watch, bandage scissors, penlights, copy paper etc. I knew nursing school would be expensive, but I didnt know it would be THIS expensive lol. But I know in the end it will be worth the investment :)

Hi everyone! Another class of 2015 ADN student

We had Orientation part 1 on May 2nd, which was a 2 hour session with all tracks reporting (fall, spring, 3-year & alternates). We'll have our actual cohort orientation (part 2) in August a few weeks before school starts.

I still have to get my background check ($85) and fingerprinting ($65) done. I just placed my order for textbooks today. I found all 19 of them on Amazon, which saved me quite a few hundred bucks, compared to getting them in the college book store  They should arrive in a week. Totally excited to open that package!!!

I've placed my order for my scrubs. We have royal blue pants & top, plus we're required to where a white shirt underneath it, as well as white shoes. I ordered a purple stethoscope (Littman Classic SE II), which goes well with the scrubs. The scrub tops have to be embroidered with our school's logo and "nursing student" on them, so I'm still waiting for them to arrive at the uniform center. It really sank in when I tried on the sample uniform that it's actually happening!

Besides the fingerprinting & background check, I also have to finish the paperwork on my immunization history, get a physical and a blood titer done to prove I've had chicken pox as a kid so I don't have to get the varicella vaccine. I've already sent in my completed nursing contract to the school, formally accepting my seat in the Fall 2013 2-year program. I'm so excited to get started!!! :D :D :D

Hey there! Are you attending LCC's nursing program???

Specializes in Endocrinology, hopefully.

Although I haven't been given our book list yet, I managed to find last year's start list and I looked up the prices for new/used/bookstore and it looks like I can save about $500 off of the "new" cost (Haven't checked the school's bookstore yet, but I'm sure it'll be extortionate) and will be spending less than $2000 out of pocket over my 5 semesters as the same books are reused a couple of times. I hope so, anyways! I need my grants to stretch as far as possible as I can't seem to find any scholarships that I qualify for!

I have a 6 year old daughter and a 3 year old son. My husband says he'll help out any way he can, even though he works his tail off at his job... I'm gonna have to hold him to it, though, because I'm gonna be busy, busy, busy come the fall!

Wow it's exciting to hear all about the different programs everyone is in. I was looking forward to getting my text book info- till I read some of ya'alls posts!! I too have only nursing courses left but will be taking some 1/2 semester courses to keep me at full time. Fundamentals- pharm - nutrition, only give me 10. Pharm and nutrition are online. My school is also one that does not make aid available till late, so everything up until mid August is out of pocket. But we do what we gotta! I will be working while I go to school- have a very flexible boss. I am looking forward to this threads journey!
