First Exam
So this is my first semester of nursing school and I've been beyond panicking these last few weeks feeling like it was way to much material to cover, and maybe just maybe I wasn't cut out for it... Took my first exam on Monday, and guess what, I was wrong.. I got an "A" and I'm so proud of myself.. Living proof that if you put in the time and work and are truly passionate about what your doing then nothing or no one should stop you from being successful!!!

New Student Loans Rules
The maximum amount of student loans one can burrow is $57,000 were I live but that's for a graduate degree so if your pursuing a undergraduate degree the community college is required to make sure you don't burrow more than half of that amount. This is so that if you decide to move on to pursue a graduate degree you are not maxed out on student loans... I'm not sure why you would be affected by this if you've only received $15,000 so far.

Nurse Extern?? What's that about?
I work at a hospital, and here Clinical Nurse Externs are the same as clinical technicians or CNA's only difference is they've completed their fundamentals of nursing class.. So in turn earned the name CNE and a nice little raise... But still do the same exact job.

Class of 2015
My school had orientation on May 9th, ours does it do early so that students have a heads up on what the program consists of and therefore are able to decide if it is right for them... By doing it early, if people decide that the program is not right for them then they can give wait listed students a spot and not have to rush them thru the process of getting everything done in time. However we do have a second orientation that is 8 hours long the first day of the semester which is August 26th.

Paying for Nursing School?
Once you earn a bachelors degree you no longer qualify for federal grants ( money that you don't have to pay back) however there are many federal and private loans that you can apply for, but i hear the interest rate on private loans can be expensive..

My first job will be as an RN
It's already relatively hard for new grad RN's to find jobs as is, I think it would be even harder for a new grad without any healthcare experience to find employment. Most schools allow you to sit for CNA certification after your first semester of Nursing school. If this is the case at your school then I suggest you go for your CNA certification and then try to find employment as a CNA even if you can only work 8 hours a week while in school, some experience is better than no experience. Best of luck to you!

Nursing student being abused by teacher and staff
I think it's ridiculous that your being treated this way....I think you need to go to the highest of the high when it comes to this matter. When it comes to your assignments you should turn in a hard copy and also email everything and save a copy in your sent folder that way you have proof that you are turning in things.. I pray this issue gets resolved!!

26, starting from the bottom, do I really stand a chance???
I'm a 27 year old mother of 3, and I will be starting nursing school in the fall. If all goes well I will be graduating with my degree at 29... Start now stay consistent and if this is something you really want than don't allow anything to hold you back. The way I see it is if your starting now with a year and a half to 2 years of prerequisites plus 2 years of being in the actual program, than if you pace yourself right you should be able to graduate by the time your 30/31...Hang in there, you can do it!

Being accepted... Is it a sign?!?
Is it possible to keep your spot in the Nursing program and still take your sciences classes at the CC and just have the credits transferred? If your going to have to take them along with your nursing classes anyways once in the program why not just do it that way, if it is an option?

Single mom in nursing school...
I'm a single mom of 3, ages 2, 5 & 6 and I will be starting Nursing school in August, I'm currently working full time in a hospital but will be cutting down to 24 hours once I start school... My children are in a daycare that takes them to and from school, which takes a lot of pressure off of me...it's pretty expensive, but I know that everything I'm doing will pay off in the end.

Confusing shoe restrictions!
You can google nursing shoes, allhearts.com has a nice selection. I know a lot of people like the Dansko nursing shoes but they can be expensive. I got a pair of all white Cherokee shoes like what you described as a requirement for your school for only $50 at allhearts.com. I just received them via FedEx yesterday and they are very comfortable

Class of 2015
Hi everyone, I will also be a 2015 graduate.. My nursing classes start on August 26th which will be the day of our 2nd nursing orientation.... My 1st orientation was on May 9th... We were given all of the information about the program, signed up for classes, choose the clinical sites that were closest to where we live, and tried on uniforms... We were also giving a list of books for the first semester this list includes 19 requires books totaling about $1,200 at our book store and also a list of recommended books.. Our bookstore sells most of the required books in bundle packages which is cheaper than buying them separately. I bought all the books that weren't bundled from amazon.com which save me about $100.. Our uniforms are all white and we have to buy the school patch from the bookstore and it has to be put on our left sleeve.... I bought the Greys Anatomy scrubs because they are super comfortable but a bit more expensive than most.... I'm going to be a hybrid nursing student so all of my lecture will be online and my labs will be on Wednesday evenings and all I my Clinicals with be on the weekends.... I am beyond excited to start, I've started reading my Fundamentals book in advance, and plan on covering as much as possible before the semester starts... Our first semester consists of Fundamentals, Basic Physical Assessment, and Nursing Perspectives... Best of luck to all of you!!!

What am I doing wrong?
The head of my Nursing Department was a Solid "C" student throughout her entire ASN program, and that was at her best, it wasn't until she went for her BSN and later her Masters that she started getting straight A's .. My point is constantly put your all into it and if that lands you an "A" "B" or "C" be proud that you gave it your best... And btw having a "B" average sounds like your doing pretty well to me.

First Semester Clinicals
Just had orientation today, my school has 8 clinical sites but because I'm a hybrid nursing student (all lectures online) I only have a choice of 2 clinical sites and will most likely be assigned to the one closest to me which is a hospital, I'm very happy for that because I was hoping to get assigned to this particular hospital....so excited for the Fall :-)
