Class of 2015

Published

Congrats to all those that are accepted and will be the class of 2015. I thought it would be nice to have our own thread where we can support each other along our journey. Mine is an ADN program, but I know some will be BSN as well.

With all that aside has anyone had their nursing orientation yet? How was it? What are some of the costs you have to dish out? Did it finally sink in that you will be starting nursing school soon?

Mine isn't until May 29th 9a-3p. I do know that our tops will be white and our bottoms will be green. I also know we are required to have an iPad which is included in our financial aid. I also know I have to pay $66.00 just for the drug test. The program pays for our in state CORI/SORI but I had to pay for my out of state one which was $31.00. I just payed for that today. We will be required to buy the books, stethoscope, name pin, uniforms, warm up jacket, lab coat, and more. So exciting. We will also schedule our classes on orientation day.

Lets get to know each other so we can support each other :)

Just got all my vaccines yesterday. There was no way I could get a titer done in time, so I ended up having to start the varicella as well. I'll get my final one a month from now. Just trying to find a doc that can squeeze me in for a physical. Every place I've called says they can't get me in until mid-July. I've gotta have my paperwork done by July 1st.

Good grief! That's not much time. I wonder if I should schedule my physical at the same time as I have my titers drawn even though I don't have the health clearance forms yet (since we haven't had orientation! As everyone knows. Because I whine about it constantly.) Can they do all the vaccines at once? I know that some are multi step, but did you at least get everything started? I am scheduled for my first Hep B at the health dept in a few days, then my titers and/or vaccines July 3 at my regular doctors office.

Perhaps you could get your physical (and vaccines/titers) done and then once you get your paperwork, you can take it to your doctor and he/she fill in the necessary lines pertaining to your h&p. At least it'll get one thing off your mind and to-do list.

Just got off the phone with the doctor! Doing exactly that! Soprano scared me with that post! Now I'm worried for her!

Have you tried looking into urgent care centers? Sometimes they take patients for physicals, at least the ones near me do. It's worth a try! :)

I've been a lurker on this thread since it started, so I figured I'd chime in. I'm starting my BSN program in August. Orientation isn't until August and its only 3 hours, so I'm not sure what it all entails. I already have all my health requirements done, I have my booklist and have ordered some books. I have almost all my supplies, I need to order my uniforms still. I'm so excited though!!!

As far as needing someone to do a physical SopranoKris.... As another person said, look into urgent care clinics. Another thing, I know for high school sports physicals (which were basically the same as the physical I got for my program), if someone was super desperate, they could go to a chiropractor to get it done. If worse comes to worse, I'd look into that too!

How are everyone's schedule for the fall?

I'm in class all day Tuesday, all afternoon Wednesday, and on Friday mornings.

Thank you for this advice!!! I found a place that is practically within walking distance  I'm going this afternoon after class. No appointment needed either :D

Hello! I am starting in the fall also. Just got my schedule in and it looks like I will be in class or clinicals lab 5 days a week. I have everything done in my power but.. jeez dealing with Certified Profile and the immunizations has been a hot mess! I need to vent because only you will understand. I had to call them numerous times to get them to send me my info to go get the drug screen. They kept telling me to check my spam folder until finally one of them actually looked and saw they never sent it. I had all my immunizations except for the TB test, a recent TDap, and the varicella titer. I made an appointment at my doctors office and I was assigned to a brand new medical assistant grad. Bless her heart. I was her first patient I think. She was terrified and shaking. I'm a nice lady! I feel like she should have had a supervisor or something. She injected the TB test INTO my arm, couldn't find a vein and tried to go digging for it, didn't have me sign anything (I didn't know & had to go back), and now it looks like she either wrote it down wrong or gave me the wrong shot. I should have double checked before she gave me the shot. Is it TD or Tdap? The paperwork says TD only apparently and I got a nice message from Certified Profile. ::sigh:: This will be 5 visits to the doctor in two weeks now.

Anyone else with immunization fun?

We just received our CRN numbers so we can register for our nursing class this fall. Our school has us take Nursing Fundamentals I & II as a 9 credit hour class. However, it's more like 4 classes compressed into one big class (lecture, clinicals, sim lab, pathophysiology, etc.). The course fee costs more than the tuition!!! They don't publish the registration number where the general student population can see it to prevent non-program participants from registering. So, we have until August 7th to register. I'm holding off for a bit, since I have to pay so MUCH in tuition & fees once I register. Ay-yi-yi! Nursing school is going to drain all my savings, but I'm glad I can do it! :D

Starting an ASN in August, I feel kinda lucky i Only had to pay $16.00 for my background check. My wife politely informed me they'll get us later. I am doing a transition course in July. I hear its pretty easy as long as you follow directions. I'm nervous as all heck though two years is not very long but time only flies when your having fun. May 2015 here I come!
