My 1st Semester Experience
Something I would like to add is if you bring a laptop or iPad to class actually use it for class. Don't surf the web, fb, Pinterest... Not only will you distract others during lecture but if anyone else is like me they don't want to hear you complain about failing a test or the class when you obviously aren't putting much of an effort in. I have sat through numerous lectures where I wanted to do other things like surf the web but I didn't because I wanted my teachers to know I had enough common sense and respect not to. Teachers aren't dumb they know when you aren't following along and on your phones. Some students don't realize they are ruining a great opportunity for letters of recommendation. And teacher talk to other teachers and they will more than likely give the next semester teacher their opinion of you if you do manage to squeeze by.

Passed First Semester-now I need your help
Idk how I would manage without Tegrity. So thankful our program requires their professors to record a lecture in their office and upload it online that way we can listen to it whenever and as much as we can. Ours is a closed program where others can't access it but you may be able to google lectures and find a few online. Also if you create an evolve/Elsiver account you can find some online extras for free.

Med Surg Tips
For those of you who have taken med surg courses what are some things that you did different than you did in fundamentals or looking back wish you had done? Also any reviews on the med surg made incredibly easy book?

End of Semester Hesi Exam
We paid for the case studies and practice test as well.

End of Semester Hesi Exam
I took the fundamentals exam today and made a 949 (85.35%) there were several things on it we did not cover in fundamentals. My class was pretty mad over this and the class average was 832 with the national average of 859 and a recommended score of 900. I bought the comprehensive HESI review book that came out recently and the book itself is more geared for med surg but it did come with online practice questions specifically for fundamentals in study mode and a practice exam. Each was 75 questions and I was disappointed that they were the same questions only difference is in study mode you have the rationale. Studying for my final helped me none what so ever for the HESI.

Graduation Cap Decorations
Yea I totally forgot about all that jazz lol better play it safe and put nursing or your degree!
-
Graduation Cap Decorations
IMO it is ok to put nurse jenny or just the word nurse on it. You just aren't registered so I wouldn't put RN but nurse is ok in my opinion.

Audio summaries
Anyone know of a site I can get audio summaries of a fundamentals book? I have an hour commute and would love to use that time efficiently. My teacher won't let us record his lectures but he does but up a plain Jane voice recording of the power points with a few extra points added but I have to be connected to Internet to listen to them and I don't wanna use up my data plan on my phone.

How Not to Get Taken Advantage Of
Some people are lazy and don't want to do the hard work. I think it would be different if they were bringing something equal to the table to share but yes there are way to may moochers out there & I don't blame op for not wanting to hand over her work...

How Not to Get Taken Advantage Of
I would just explain to them that you have had ppl take advantage of you and you will no longer just hand over your hard work but you wouldn't mind to show them you how to do your methods of things.

Independent Learning Class
Evey class I listed are the requirements I lack for my schools bridge program so I know that is exactly what I need. I will not take the math via iL classes I'm not that brave!! I do plan on taking one course along with my other nursing classes each semester and then load up in the summer. I feel that if I'm not done with those requirements by the time I graduate with my ASN I will be ok and can just continue to do iL classes while I work and then apply to the bridge program when ready. I haven't really thought much about job interviews for in the future but I'm sure one of the questions they ask you is about continuing your education, if I answer that I am in the process of working on getting into the bridge program surely that has to count for something right?
