  1. Something I would like to add is if you bring a laptop or iPad to class actually use it for class. Don't surf the web, fb, Pinterest... Not only will you distract others during lecture but if anyone else is like me they don't want to hear you complain about failing a test or the class when you obviously aren't putting much of an effort in. I have sat through numerous lectures where I wanted to do other things like surf the web but I didn't because I wanted my teachers to know I had enough common sense and respect not to. Teachers aren't dumb they know when you aren't following along and on your phones. Some students don't realize they are ruining a great opportunity for letters of recommendation. And teacher talk to other teachers and they will more than likely give the next semester teacher their opinion of you if you do manage to squeeze by.
  2. Idk how I would manage without Tegrity. So thankful our program requires their professors to record a lecture in their office and upload it online that way we can listen to it whenever and as much as we can. Ours is a closed program where others can't access it but you may be able to google lectures and find a few online. Also if you create an evolve/Elsiver account you can find some online extras for free.

I thought it was set to only I seen it. Thanks for letting me know. I believe I have it fixed now.
  4. For those of you who have taken med surg courses what are some things that you did different than you did in fundamentals or looking back wish you had done? Also any reviews on the med surg made incredibly easy book?
  5. We paid for the case studies and practice test as well.
  6. I took the fundamentals exam today and made a 949 (85.35%) there were several things on it we did not cover in fundamentals. My class was pretty mad over this and the class average was 832 with the national average of 859 and a recommended score of 900. I bought the comprehensive HESI review book that came out recently and the book itself is more geared for med surg but it did come with online practice questions specifically for fundamentals in study mode and a practice exam. Each was 75 questions and I was disappointed that they were the same questions only difference is in study mode you have the rationale. Studying for my final helped me none what so ever for the HESI.
  7. Yea I totally forgot about all that jazz lol better play it safe and put nursing or your degree!
  8. IMO it is ok to put nurse jenny or just the word nurse on it. You just aren't registered so I wouldn't put RN but nurse is ok in my opinion.
  9. Anyone?
  10. Anyone know of a site I can get audio summaries of a fundamentals book? I have an hour commute and would love to use that time efficiently. My teacher won't let us record his lectures but he does but up a plain Jane voice recording of the power points with a few extra points added but I have to be connected to Internet to listen to them and I don't wanna use up my data plan on my phone.
  11. Some people are lazy and don't want to do the hard work. I think it would be different if they were bringing something equal to the table to share but yes there are way to may moochers out there & I don't blame op for not wanting to hand over her work...
  12. I would just explain to them that you have had ppl take advantage of you and you will no longer just hand over your hard work but you wouldn't mind to show them you how to do your methods of things.
  13. I took the HESI for ASN entrance exam and it is based off of a 100 point scale: Reading- 98% Math- 92% Science- 82%
  14. Chicken salad sandwich {Oh I'm craving some now!!} I also plan on trying out the mason jar salads :)
  15. Evey class I listed are the requirements I lack for my schools bridge program so I know that is exactly what I need. I will not take the math via iL classes I'm not that brave!! I do plan on taking one course along with my other nursing classes each semester and then load up in the summer. I feel that if I'm not done with those requirements by the time I graduate with my ASN I will be ok and can just continue to do iL classes while I work and then apply to the bridge program when ready. I haven't really thought much about job interviews for in the future but I'm sure one of the questions they ask you is about continuing your education, if I answer that I am in the process of working on getting into the bridge program surely that has to count for something right?
  16. *Warningthis may be long* I completed all of my prerequisites at my local community college and was intheir ADN program. Long story short during second semester I withdrew inNovember due to pregnancy complications. I chose not to return to the communitycollege. My advisor had always encouraged me to take more prerequisites thatare required for a BSN if I ever wanted to transfer and get my BSN. Because Iwas "young and knew it all" (aren't we all at some point) I said Iwouldn't need my BSN and would never transfer. Fast forward and here I am nowabout to begin another ADN program at a university. In my area almost every ADNstudent can have a job before they even graduate. However the local hospitalsare weaning out the LPNs and requiring an RN. I don't know if in the futurethey will require all ADN RNs to go back for their BSN since we do live in a semi-ruralarea and I just don't see that being mandatory here. For job security purposesI have been considering taking those extra prerequisites I need such as collegealgebra (I only took the general) Spanish 1 & 2, art appreciation, westernciv, human nutrition, stats, and some other one I can't remember. Then bridgeover to the RN BSN program after graduation with my ADN. The nursing advisorsat my school urge you to not take any other courses along with the program butmy school offers independent learning classes (iL). These classes must becompeted in a nine month time frame and are all online minus proctored exams oncampus. During the course there are no deadlines for assignments and you workat your own pace within the nine month time frame. Since there are no deadlinesI believe this would be very flexible with my other nursing classes such aswhen I am studying for an exam I don't have to worry about my other iL classand resume it when I have the free time. I could also load up on them duringthe summer break when we don't have classes. My hesitations and reasons forthis post I guess are #1 do I truly need my BSN #2 are these iL classes asgreat as they seem?? Taking these classes won't be cheap and I don't want totake them if they are not really a necessity. Ugh gosh I'm sorry this was solong!
  17. No way can I study near a bed it just screams "come lay under the covers & take a nap!!!" I also can not study in the living room or kitchen or I will have kids climbing up in my lap. My boys room is tight quarters now but they will survive until we can get a bigger place (we rent right now but are planning to start building in a year.) So moving the baby's bed was our only option if I wanted to get any studying done.
  18. Hey everyone I'm currently in the process of converting my youngest child's room into my home office/study place for me and me only. The baby is bunking in his two big brothers room :) they love sharing a room! The space is quite small so I don't have a ton of room but I feel it is enough room. I was just wondering what your study space set up is like an what are your must haves and must nots? Also pics would be great too!
  19. ^loved reading the previous comment!
  20. Yes I'm in the 2015 FB page. My school has several semesters with one and they are all up and running and I have not seen anything in the student handbook that states we can't. They use it mostly for reminders and other what not definitely nothing that would have any pt details.
  21. Hahaha I have to read aloud so I don't go to the library either, afraid ppl will think I'm cray cray!
  22. Is anyone apart of a Facebook page just for your program and semester? Wondering wether it would be helpful to create one or if its too much drama.
  23. I second the speaking up. If you have taken care of all the needs of your patient and don't have anything to do ask your instructor if its ok to tell the nurses that you are available if they need anything or have anything interesting to watch or even possibly help.
  24. Are you in a BSN program? I find that typical for a BSN program but a lot of ADN programs you pass meds at every clinical after you check off on the skill. I was in second semester of an ADN program and had pregnancy complications so I withdrew three weeks before finals. Now I have transferred to a different program. Meds, shots, IV bags were every day things for us. Foleys, IV insertion, and other things were hard to come by depending what floor we were on but we still got to do them. I haven't started the new program yet but I so hope it's similar to my old program.
  25. If the patient is capable then ask her or him (yes him) to lift their breast up so you can properly listen to their heart. If they are not capable then explain that you will be moving their breast for just a monent. If its a pretty thin hospital gown you can listen tru their gown but anything thicker you can find a place to slip your hand and stethoscope in. Always explain to the pt what you are doing!! As far as bowel sounds when you do your assessment and are inpecting the skin you will need to see their stomach so explain to pt you will be pulling down their pants a little to listen to their bowels and inspect the skin. Don't be afraid of pts, if you have one that is not so corooperative then do your best of what you can and ask your instructor to help you explain why it is necessary.
