do you check you license for any discipline?

Published

one day, while i was taking my lunch break, i got into an internet and looked up my license from the state website and to my relief found nothing. for some reason i looked up my nurse supervisor's name and she had lots of disciplines. it took her 7 years to reinstate her license. what does being reinstating her license mean? can she still practice nursing without being reinstated?

i look up my license once in a while because i know anybody can complain to the bon about my nursing practice and i also know my employer can complain and my license can be investigated.

so, do you check your license for any disciplines or complains?

I have looked myself up a couple of times, mostly to be sure my expiration date and such was updated after renewal. I would imagine they would contact you if there were any proceedings underway. A couple of my colleagues have had past issues.

at your suggestion I tried to use the link for Pa I have had for a while, found it does not work, I wonder what it is now

I looked up mine...clean as a whistle....however I had lost the direct link to the AG site.....so I went in the long way....

interestingly enough when going the long way....license information was under the subdivision of "consumer complaints".

anyone else think "wow that explains a lot!!!"?

Tres

I don't believe a BON puts a mark against your license due to a mere complaint. You are considered innocent until proven guilty. If they found that you had committed an ethics violation or other type of violation, you would be contacted, a hearing scheduled, etc.

It's only if they find that you did something wrong will you have a mark against your license.

If your supervisor got her license back, then she complied with the requests of the BON of her state in order to get her license back. It's not automatic. She had to apply for it and it had to be approved.

Nothing will show up on your license unless a complaint has b een found to be valid and there is a discipline enforced. Reinstating the license means just that: it was revoked for a period of time. No, you can't work with a revoked license unless the revocation is stayed and you are placed on probation.

At least, that's how it is in CA.

I've got way to many important things to do than check out my coworks. I'd be the first to scream privacy issues if they were looking me up.

How can you look up a co workers ? Wouldn't you need a social or a License Number?

Why would you look up a coworker?

All you need is their name and you can look up anyone--this tends to be a big hobby of fellow staff members come graduation time, to log on and see if so and so passed their boards, our state used to also show failed if you failed your boards and it showed every time, we had one CNA who failed 8x, for some reason people liked to pull her name up the most... now if you fail your name just goes away.

As far as having marks against you, wouldnt you be sent a letter 1st? I cant imagine they would put a mark against your lic with out informing you??

I do believe that it is a process involved before they can just place disciplines on you, and I am sure we would know as long as we have submitted a current address.

Yes, I do remember the graduation past time, people checking each other's names for some time to evaluate if they passed. In my area, if you pass NCLEX, it will be posted, but if not, you wouldn't know if the name is not there because they didn't pass or because they didn't take it yet. I have heard of people waiting as long as 10 years before sitting for NCLEX for the first time. I guess life situations or fear got to them.

I have looked up co-workers as well, ones that are insane in their practice. I was surprized to see that they had zlich as well. I think that they have to be charged, informed of the charge and then found guilty before you see the infractions.
