Cheater

Published

A girl in my chem class is quite the cheater. During quizzes and tests she has her cell under the desk googling answers. I only know this because she sits at the same desk as me and we are in the back of the room. She doesn't pay attention in the class and doesn't understand any of the info. She also brags about her tutor doing her homework. Anyway, with final exam coming up should I continue to bite my tongue and not tell the teacher like I have all semester or should I give my teacher a heads up and let her know about the girls cheating ways. I transfer after this semester to a nursing school from my community college and unfortunately this girl got into the same program as me or else I would ignore it. I will for sure be avoiding her next year but I find cheaters to be pretty pathetic and it irritates me to know end that someone would not even try to learn the info and then cheat.

I would report it. It's not fair to the rest of the class or the spot she could be occupying in nursing school. People like her don't get far in life. Put your mind at ease!

Maybe you could write an anonymous letter to the professor...but if she has to cheat than she won't pass nursing school. Either way she's in trouble!

I have a few cheaters in my class. Both of which have offered me a copy of the test. Declining both offers. I figure these people are trying to get into med school, well if they have to cheat in anatomy and physiology 2 they'll never make it. In your scenario it's different as she is in a nursing program. One can only fake it so long. Best luck in whatever you choose. Congrats on getting in a program!

There were two girls that had a reputation of cheating when I was in nursing school. They would whisper to each other in German. Both made it into the nursing honor society and then our last class, the first class that I ever had with them, they were cheating. I took German in high school. I called them out publicly and then after I called them out, several other students agreed with me. The teacher flunked them only for that test, they still past the class and graduated. I wish someone spoke up sooner, maybe they wouldn't be working in the same hospital as me now. I would say something.

I had a post about this exact situation a few months ago and a lot of people told me to mind my own business. I couldn't so I wrote an anonymous note to my program director. All she did was make an announcement saying we had to have our cell phones off during class. Needless to say within a few weeks the same girl was cheating again. I think you can try writing a note to your professor.

If you're feeling devilish, you could get a cell phone jammer.

LOVE IT!

Leaving an anonymous note in the professors mailbox sounds like a good idea, because you can just say there's a girl in the back row that has been using her cell phone on exams

I don't know about you but I studied my *** off in nursing school. I would have to turn this person in. If you feel better doing it anonymously then do so. Good luck;)

You and I are very different people. I would stand right up, in silence, and point at her until everyone looked including the teacher. If that didn't work, I'd yell "CHEEEEEEATERRRRR" and say right then and there, in front of the whole class and instructor, what you saw, and demand the teacher look at her phone browser history.

I don't mess around.

Due to issues of that in the past, some of my professors require everyone to put their cell phone on the front desk. Id leave a note telling him what is going on, and maybe he will do something. I would also suggest if he does nothing to submit something to the department head, that will speed the process up.

Cell phone jammers are a cool idea, but also illegal in a few states, so it may not be a good idea to go that way.

It's not like the cheater is going to complain about her phone getting jammed. :D

This is real gutsy!!! I would just looove to be in that classroom. And then if I was aware of the cheating, I probably would applaud.

But for me, I don't put much into ANONYMOUS notes/memos. And usually employers don't either. As for academia ??? I just see accusations like this as a case of 'he said, she said'. Yeah, you've alerted them of cheating but unless you've been really specific, the memos would probably just go into the 'round file' (trash).

If you do provide specifics, you can only hope that your concerns will be investigated; you have no way of truly knowing (I mean I don't think there'll be any big 'AHA, gotcha" scene in the classroom). So if any investigation and disciplinary actions are taken, you may never know, unless that student is no longer in class.

But in today's lawsuit-happy society, administration may be reluctant to take serious action. And the cheater will just figure out another cheating technique.

I burns me that that student would be making better grades than I, so I would likely go, in person, up the chain-of-command. I'd have to leave it to them to handle the issue, else I would have to consider a plan B if I felt so strongly.

It's just sad to think about that student's integrity, now and for his/her professional future.
