our hospital DON has announced that she wants us to change from our everyday scrubs to wearing matching scrubs (that also match our new bedspreads for our brand new unit opening in April). She thinks that we should be grateful for our multimillion dollar unit and purchase scrubs. I am angry that 1. We are being "forced"to decide between colors we don't like
2. we have to purchase these scrubs we don't like from a company they got "cheaper rates" for us (and for good reason...they are cheap/too thin) 3. We have to match bedspreads for crying out loud!! Also....no other unit has to match, I have frequently seen nurses/staff wearing clothing that hardly qualifies as scrubs....PJ's etc.
Does anyone have input/advice....thanks for your help :angryfire

LOL!!!!!! Okay suggest to that managment team that it has been found that clients like different rooms so they have a feeling of individuality, instead of feeling like every other patient! You can have the "calming seas" room with light flowing blue tones, the "mellow meadow" with greens, or even the "Don't worry be happy" room done in yellow smileys..LOL~!
That way when they ask you to match the decor, there is more to chose from! LOL!!!!

Yeah, and what happens in 10 years when the trendy colors she picked are totally passe? Remember the salmon and teal fad of 15 years ago??? I was working in home decorating field at the time (working for a high end custom furniture co) Yellow and orange were big 'no nos' at the time. Well, yellow and orange have made a huge comeback, and salmon and teal are on the outs...

THE LEAST YOU AND YOUR UNIT COULD REQUEST, IS TO PAY ONLY HALF! THE HOSPITAL SHOULD PAY THE OTHER HALF. NO ONE CAN FORCE YOU TO DO ANYTHING! YOU DO HAVE SOMETHING CALLED....RIGHTS! AND IF MORE THAN ONE PERSON STANDS UP FOR THEIR RIGHTS AND FORMS A PETION OR REQUEST YOU WILL MORE THAN LIKELY PREVAIL.

LOL you are so right! LOL! Hey, now I can submit these to calgon and see if I can get a job as their ad gal! LOL!!!!!!! Bet I won't have a uniform! LOL!
Its past time for diplomacy. Any management that is this incompetent is not going to change its mind over this. Time to move on to another departmnet or facility. Another plus for Unions as this would not likely happen. Unless of course the hospital assumed all the costs.
Are they going to promise to always have the same bedspreads, or do you have to change outfits every year or two (not that anyone will want to stay around that long!)
That is truly an interesting concept, I have to say
I would pick my battle wisely. Is there a compromise? When they wanted us to be all white, we finally got them to agree to white pants, shoes and colored tops.
Oh and I remember the teal and salmon..we had both those color scrubs...ewwwww LOL

I think most on our unit are too chicken to rock the boat (or at least be the first one to initiate a protest). Most of us are angry and a petition has been discussed but I want to find out from a legal standpoint if they can force us to buy these scrubs. I will wear them, I just want them to pay. Thanks for your input everyone....It sucks to feel more like a bedroom accessory than a nurse. We are a med sized OB unit and and they have required us to match before, but they bought 2 sets. I think they should buy 3 sets but will settle for at least 2 and then they can make the other units match and stop wearing PJ bottoms to work. :)
