CCBC, Fall 2011 Applicants =)

Published

Hello Everyone,

Here we go again! This is my second time applying to CCBC's nursing program. I look forward to chatting with everyone as we wait for the GOOD news! I believe things happen for a reason! I have good faith that Fall 2011 is going to be my turn for acceptance. I guess we will see if I am right.

For anyone who was not accepted this Spring, we can be a great support system for each other :).

GOOD LUCK!!!

corrine,

yes, i did apply to the day program at essex. i too have a lot of things taken care of. i took the cpr last year and i work for gmbc so i have all of my shots. i would hate to be in the big rush to get things done. it doesn't seem like ccbc gives much time.

babyjade,

great to know we sign-up for dosage at orientation. i don't like to wait for the last minute to do things. i hope we have options to choose from.

I've heard that you register for dosage and Fundamentals during orientation. A friend of mine was worried about getting into Fundamentals when fall registration begins on April 27 - and we probably won't know of our status by then. But I told her it's not like anyone can just register for Fundamentals, it's only available to new nursing students and people who fail out and need to repeat. I'm sorry but if you fail out of Fundamentals, you shouldn't be able to repeat it because it's people like that who are taking up seats for potentials like us. :-(

I'm just ready to find out already! :-(

Hmm... I looked at the schedule for NURN 153, and the closest schedule for the Evening/Weekend course at Essex (CRN 93755) says, "NOTE: 93755, NURN 153 XT1 meets August 16 - December 17. Lab assignments start September 12 and will be scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays 6:30-8:30pm. An additional $130.00 testing charge is required at time of registration. Written permission from the program director required to register. This section will be taught at the Essex Ridge Road Annex 7106B Ridge Road:located across Rossville Blvd from the Essex Campus"

This is the first that I have heard of Mon/Wednesdays for the Essex Night/Weekend course. It even says only Tues/Thurs nights for this program on the nursing homepage: "The evening/weekend RN program is designed for students who are unable to attend the traditional day time classes. In-class work and skills practice are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings and clinical days are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. This program operates on a 20-week schedule. The evening/weekend program is offered only at the Essex campus, and admission occurs only in the fall semester. The application deadline is March 15. Approximately 40 students are accepted each fall."

Has anyone else heard of classes on Monday/Wednesday nights for the Essex night/weekend program? I'm wondering if they made a mistake in the course catalog.

I hope we find out soon too; I'm getting a little nervous. I don't expect to hear though until around may 9th. Hopefully sooner though!

I agree. From previous threads on this board, I've noticed people find out around the first and second week of May. So that should be some sort of indication. I think the general time frame is around May 3 that letters go out.

The only thing I could possibly gather from what the catalog says is that lab/skills are on Monday and Wednesday, and lecture is on Tuesday and Thursday. Clinical is on the weekends which would end up making it a Monday-Thursday in-classroom time and clinical on the weekend. I was always under the impression that lecture and lab/skills were on the same nights, but if it's every night, that works for me - I'd rather get in as much time as possible when it comes to learning plus lab/skills. But who knows, at the this point, it would drive someone crazy to try to figure out what the nursing program consists of!

I am EXTREMELY concerned about the timing for the E/W program...I go to school on evenings and weekends because I work full time and have a family. I do not want to be in school 4 nights per week and the weekends as well, it is a bit much. I would never see my family...I am hoping that this is not what the new students are expected to enroll in and that we are registstering for other schedules that are available at orientation...I have been trying to check things on teh CCBCMD website and it is having MAJOR issues! Up, down, not found, error in login, etc...

STRESSED!!!!

I'm hoping there are other schedules offered as well. Like you, I would like to have some time off campus to be able to study and at least ATTEMPT to have a life outside of nursing school, not that I plan on having a life since I'll be giving up my life to help save someone else's. I'm a bit annoyed with the website today as well - you can't tell me they're working on it this much that it's down so often!

I wish the nursing website had more information for applicants and prospective students. Sometimes it's not convenient to call the office or e-mail someone, so you would think the website would be more informative for those who just want a simple question answered. And really, the FAQs need to be updated too!

Got this off the SHP page

Its Tues. Thurs. and Sat. Sun, Gwen never said anything about Mon. Wed. I'll be glad when this @%$& is over. I feel for the ones who are going through this for the second time. I hope I'm one and done!

I hear that! I would hate to have to go through process AND wait again!

It sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's all I can say!

Just a bit of advice. When you guys do get into a nursing program, try to get a hospital job as a tech or student while still in school. The economy is so bad right now that new nurses are finding it hard to get jobs if they do not already work in a hospital.
