I have noticed a rash of posters here asking for advice, opinions and help, only to get all puffed up when people are honest and frank in their replies.
Here is the basic rule on a general open forum such as this:
If you don't want to know the truth, don't ask. If you cannot handle the truth, don't put your situation out there for general consumption.
Another fact: People don't have to agree with you to be helpful.
Seriously so much "butt hurt" that is so unnecessary.
I see a lot of helpful posters trying to answer questions honestly, only to be slammed for being "rude"......
Just keepin' it real and wondering if it's just me noticing a big trend here.
It goes both ways. I am pretty sick of hearing ageism against "older" nurses all around this site, as well.
Me too! It's not as bad as it was a few years back, though. For awhile there, it seemed like an older nurse couldn't say anything without getting slapped with points. It's somewhat better now. Or maybe I'm just more oblivious now . . . .
Hmmmm....nope, sorry. I want to play nice and all, but when grown adults act like gossipy, retaliating middle schoolers at work or on this board, I'm calling that out. There's just no excuse for that.
Well if you read my whole post I am talking about people using that as an insult only due to someone else not agreeing with their point of view. Not being used as "calling out" someone who is acting catty and gossipy.
One of the reasons I took a long break from allnurses.com a while back. Things are definitely better now.

Now it's all about the spoiled, lazy, incompetent, entitled, oversensitive nurses who all happen to be younger than (collective) you.

I'm telling you, it's those darned slow-firing synapses! THAT'S why you're oblivious and should retire RIGHT.NOW.....before you kill someone.... LOL.....
No it's not. But for a lot of them is IS very much "all about me". And a lot of old nurses are crusty and crabby, too......
We already established all this ad nauseum. Can we go back to the original topic now?

I know I said at another time, that I understood we have to learn to get along across the "generations" and that WE raised this one coming up, giving everyone trophies for showing up, a prime example that sets up an unrealistic expectation for the millenials. I have raised/am raising millenials now. And I acknowledge some mistakes I made along the way. I would like all generations (there are technically at least 4 working now) to realize and appreciate each others' struggles, grow up and move on, because we are all not going anywhere any time soon.
This thread and others are illustrations of how nursing has grown into a multi divided group, the industry doesn't need to do it, we already do it ourselves coming from different perspectives that each splinter group cannot identify with or empathize.
