Can we just agree, being honest is not akin to being "rude"?

Published

I have noticed a rash of posters here asking for advice, opinions and help, only to get all puffed up when people are honest and frank in their replies.

Here is the basic rule on a general open forum such as this:

If you don't want to know the truth, don't ask. If you cannot handle the truth, don't put your situation out there for general consumption.

Another fact: People don't have to agree with you to be helpful.

Seriously so much "butt hurt" that is so unnecessary.

I see a lot of helpful posters trying to answer questions honestly, only to be slammed for being "rude"......

Just keepin' it real and wondering if it's just me noticing a big trend here.

Post #12 is total proof of the validity of post #9.

I'm finding that sometimes, posts (mine included) are just skimmed, not actually read. Some readers completely misinterpret what was said, because they didn't actually read.

Then, they get butt-hurt and defensive, and have a knee jerk reaction to something that wasn't even said..

THis happens often.

Most of the time it is not a problem.

When the person skims, misreads, and fails to comprehend the message and then posts that "you said blah blah blah" when that is really only their INTERPRETATION of what you said and actually bears little resemblance to the comment...THEN it is problematic.

I have had people respond to my posts critically (sometimes rudely) with a quote of my comment and then later (multiple interactions later in the same thread) indicate that they didn't really read the comment that they quoted so they had no idea... SMH

Similarly, some posters will respond to a comment and link to an article and then make disparaging comments about you, your choice of articles, or the publisher without ever reading the content.

Again, if you (whoever that may be), don't want to hear things you don't like, don't put it there for public consumption.

Once you do, you cannot control what others advise you do, and don't get to call them "trolls" as one poster did, because you are angry and want to take all your marbles and huff off home.

Grow up a bit.

And yet, there are TROLLS on AN

But the ones who are "trolls" are not the ones offering asked-for advice. They are being honest and earnest. That is NOT trolling.

Can we all also agree that referring to someone's age as an attempted insult whether it be "how OLD are you?!" Or "oh that's SO middle school" is rude and incredibly immature.

Don't agree with something? Totally ok. Don't agree with something and want to insult others who simply don't share your same viewpoint? NOT ok. /rant

It goes both ways. I am pretty sick of hearing ageism against "older" nurses all around this site, as well.

Let's not forget the ones who allude to older nurses having fewer synapses firing, therefore they were slow enough to not understand what the oh-so-amazing poster was saying :sniff:

..........or why don't they just retire already and make room for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?

New flash: "retirement" ain't what it used to be and most folks are gonna have to work til 70 to see any retirement at all. We ain't going anywhere too soon. Unless the employers toss us out for "costing too much" which IS happening. It's far cheaper to higher a new grad at bottom scale pay then keep an "old" nurse being paid according to experience and knowledge. Not fair, but true.

To *refocus* the thread ... :whistling:

Yes! I agree that being honest is not akin to being rude.

But then again, I have worked with some who would complain about my bluntness if I failed to pad an answer to a simple yes/no question with several additional sentences.

There's plenty of ageism against younger nurses here.
