I was on probation with CA Board of Registered Nursing. I got released from probation 11 months early. In addition, I got accepted to the MSN-FNP program and will start in Fall 2021. Life is good! There is light at the end of the tunnel.
Glad to hear this. I just got off probation for a drug addiction. I'm still struggling to find work. I would love to travel but no agencies will accept me. I'm hoping that this will get better with time. I'm planning on getting my nurse practitioner also but have already been turned down by one university. Congratulations!

Try Dr Richard Levine. He’s in Berkely Ca, but may be able to do it telemedicine

I am currently at chamberlain and waiting to get accepted into the FNP program. The probation that I completed 9 years ago for a dui 20 years ago ( prior to nurses school ) caused them to deny my application. 4.0 GPA I’m currently a director of a hospice company. They are saying they are worried I will not be able to set for the NP test. I feel like I’ve gone through all this 9 years ago and really at the age 44 don’t want to do it again. Thinking I will collect my BSN from them and forget the NP idea all together. I do not think they can tell people they will or will not be able to sit for the test. Anyone else have any experience with this?

It sounds to me like they're just being cautious. There is nothing anywhere that says you cannot sit for the NP boards after COMPLETING BRN probation. If anything, that should be seen as an accomplishment. I would try another school. Frontier is one that my previous professor from Samuel Merritt recommended to me along with Samuel Merritt. Fromtier is about half the cost and mostly online. Please don't give up on what you want to do because of what sounds like a school not being knowledgeable.
Have folks that have Petitioned for Early Termination of Probation done so on their own or with a Lawyer? I am eligible to request Early Termination but am feeling intimidated when I look at the check list and form. I wish I could see samples of how others have completed the form. I had a lawyer represent me through the process of the Accusation and Settlement Conference but was hoping to not have to spend any more money. This whole experience has been very traumatizing for me and now looking at the petition process is making me relive at all. My reason for Probation was an accusation of a HIPAA violation. I was working as a PACE Home Health Coordinator and accessed records for a participant that I was indirectly acquainted with. I thought that I had been cleared to do so, but a Supervisor claimed that I had been told to recuse myself. This was after having been a stellar Hospice and Home Health RN for almost 30 years. I have been successfully working at a new job as a Public Health Nurse, under the conditions of my settlement, but I want to be done with the restrictions that I have to work under.
A lawyers isn't necessary. If you have completed all of the requirements of probation, paid any fees, and have not violated probation you can apply for early termination at the 2 year mark(my probation is 3 years). Let your probation officer know that you want to apply. This is what I was told.

I recently applied for early term. Was going to use my lawyer but ultimately did not. I can email you a copy of my completed form if you would like. What is your email address?

That would be very kind of you to share. My email is [email protected].
Hi Danirn2003
I know your post was last year, but I had been going through something similar for a while, also in CA. Let me know did you find a job and how the process was working under probation. Also, I have some offers now. I can give you information about companies willing to hire nurses on probation.

I have been in the CA-RN Prob program since May of 2019, and recently filed my petition for early release I'm May 2021. This was for a nearly 10 year old DUI- long before I ever even entered nursing school. But none the less, here I am, doing what I need to do to get through this season, and boy have I learned/grown a lot through it all!!
I finally received notice that the board got my petition packet; the letter stated that it would be reviewed, and that I'd been placed on a list for the next board meeting. Does this sound familiar? Or did your packet go straight to the AGs office? I know that the board is already quite busy, and might be short staffed due to Covid, so I was anticipating a delay in processing. However, your post gives me hope! There is a light at the end of the tunnel and God has gotten me this far:) Any insight is helpful, thank you so much in advance.
Hi hopefully you see this...I just got a letter stating the exact thing. Did you end up having a hearing?
Hi! I hope you see this...I just got the same letter stating I'm on a waiting list for next hearing date. Did you have to end up going to a hearing or was it sent to AG and not hearing needed?

Do you know the name of the senator or of someone working on reform? I did something that looks terrible on paper thanks to the BRN and am just wondering why, during a pandemic, can we not review cases to let people work sooner and help? It’s crazy.
