I was on probation with CA Board of Registered Nursing. I got released from probation 11 months early. In addition, I got accepted to the MSN-FNP program and will start in Fall 2021. Life is good! There is light at the end of the tunnel.

congratulations!! What was the process for getting released early? Was it something your case manager offered, or did you bring it up to them?
At the beginning, my probation monitor already informed me about the option of early termination of probation at 2 years mark. Exactly at 2 years, I filed a petition for early termination of probation with supporting documents from my coworkers and boss. Since I did not violate any terms of my probation, approximately at 2 weeks I received a letter from CA BRN stating that I didn't need a hearing, and my file was forward to the Attorney General for next step. One week later, the Attorney General sent me the Stipulated Settlement. And one more week passed, I checked the breeze website and saw the my petition for early termination of probation has been granted, and my RN license is fully restored.

@RNfromKorea that is great to hear! What MSN FNP program did you get into? I'm curious. Congrats to you!! 2 big accomplishments!
I got in the program at Samuel Merritt University. It is quite expensive but the school has good reputation.
@RNfromKorea I did a similar program at Samuel Merritt. Only mine was Entry Level MSN for Case Mgmt and FNP. It is a great school and they are very supportive. My incident leading to probation happened my final semester of the program. One of my professors has been amazing in supporting me throughout this mess. It is expensive but a very good school. Congrats!

Thank you for sharing your story, I can only imagine the sheer excitement and relief that you have experienced! I have been in the CA-RN Prob program since May of 2019, and recently filed my petition for early release I’m May 2021. This was for a nearly 10 year old DUI- long before I ever even entered nursing school. But none the less, here I am, doing what I need to do to get through this season, and boy have I learned/grown a lot through it all!!
I finally received notice that the board got my petition packet; the letter stated that it would be reviewed, and that I’d been placed on a list for the next board meeting. Does this sound familiar? Or did your packet go straight to the AGs office? I know that the board is already quite busy, and might be short staffed due to Covid, so I was anticipating a delay in processing. However, your post gives me hope! There is a light at the end of the tunnel and God has gotten me this far:) Any insight is helpful, thank you so much in advance.
Does your case require the hearing, Anon3663? My case did not require a hearing, and it was processed very quickly. From the time I filed the petition until it got approved was less than a month. I also received the letter from the Board stating that the Board is streamlining the petition process. That is why my case got approved very quickly. Please keep us updated about your case, Anon3663. I think that your case will get approved either this month or next month. Good luck!
I also received the letter stating the exact same thing. My next letter I received from the Board telling me that my case was forward to the Attorney General. Next, the Attorney General contacted me so that I can sign the Settlement Agreement. Then finally the Board voted to approve my petition.

Does it still say under your license on the CA BON website that you were on probation? Is it a permanent mark?

Yes. It stays active on breeze for 10 years (starting from when you complete probation) as a link. The link will lead directly to your stipulated settlement/accusation for all to see. After 10 years, it goes away, but there is an icon (gavel) that stays attached to your name on Breeze forever that says "prior discipline." Also, if employers want access to your stipulated settlement/accusation, they can request it. So it is essentially permanent, not to mention extremely punitive and terrible. Literally no reason for it to be like this unless the nurse did something absolutely terrible.

This is unfortunate.
