California early termination of probation

Published

I was on probation with CA Board of Registered Nursing. I got released from probation 11 months early. In addition, I got accepted to the MSN-FNP program and will start in Fall 2021. Life is good! There is light at the end of the tunnel.

I recently applied for early term. Was going to use my lawyer but ultimately did not. I can email you a copy of my completed form if you would like. What is your email address?

Hi! My 2 years is in April, and I'll be eligible to apply for early termination then. Would I be able to receive that copy as well?

Hi, I'm currently on probation and I got my letter saying they are streamlining the process for early termination and sending to the attorney general but that was on Nov 27th. How did the attorney general contact you? I've been literally counting the days because I've had a few places wanting to hire me but won't because of this probation. I felt hopeful but with every passing day becoming more discouraged. Any insight will help. Thanks

I am assuming  you've already applied for early termination of probation? My experience was, after I sent the early termination form to the BRN, it was then forwarded to the AG office. The AG office contacted me by phone(mail, and email), explaining the process.  They sent me a stipulated settlement for early termination of probation via email. I signed it and sent it back to them. They sent the agreement to the BRN. The BRN approved it, then emailed (and mailed) the decision to me. It took approx 3months from the time the BRN received my petition, until the decision was granted.

OK thanks for the response. Yes I did apply for early termination I'm at the step of waiting for the AG to contact me, hopefully it won't be too much longer then. Trying to keep my hope alive but this process is so draining.

So literally today the AG emailed me the settlement to sign which is awesome. I saw one nurse say it took a week after. How long was your experience after you signed and sent it to the AG did it take to populate on breeze?

Glad to hear this. I just got off probation for a drug addiction. I'm still struggling to find work. I would love to travel but no agencies will accept me. I'm hoping that this will get better with time. I'm planning on getting my nurse practitioner also but have already been turned down by one university. Congratulations!

When you were on probation were you allowed to work??
thank you

I'm currently filling out my petition form for early termination and I was wondering if you'd be able to help me with this. My main concern is my reason for early termination will not be good enough for them. I mean, what's the best way to say, "I need to make more money and support myself financially." Haha.

I'd hate to be denied because I couldn't come up with anything that sounded good enough. But really, what other reasons would sound "worthy" enough to have my probation terminated.

Thanks !

To be honest, I don't think your reason isn't "good enough" for early termination. On mine, I put that I wanted to pursue further education, etc., I think  that as long as you've been compliant, you're good to go. Your monitor essentially either recommends you for early termination or they don't. Your reason doesn't have to be extreme or anything, is all I'm saying. 😊

"Program compliance, met all requirements asked of you, ready to start the next chapter of your life, further your career as an RN etc.”-all valid!

Remember, you have the right to request this because you honored your agreement with the BRN. And it IS time to turn the page! I've never seen anyone get turned down, as long as they were compliant. Thankfully they have sped up the process, although it will still feel like eternity! 1-2 months if I remember correctly. Chin up. You did the work, you've got this!

Hello, I see you all are already on probation. I just got a call today but was told by the AG that I can not make a settlement due to my charges. Has anyone else had this situation? He stated that If I have any poof or evidence that I can submit it and we can go to trial if not he suggest that  I surrender. I am guilty of my charge. I will admit I was addicted to narcotics, and diverted them. I have since got into a MAT program,  will informing the board and showing them prescriptions make a difference? or should I do as the AG stated and just surrender. I am so scared to go to trial this is my first offense. But I don't know what exactly will happen if I do have a trail.

Hello Helen,
I surrendered my license after paying four different lawyers and spending over $40,000 on lawyers. What I learned is that some lawyers will give you hope just to make money, once the board decides that they don't want any settlement, most likely they will not change their mind even if you go the hearing. I surrendered my license for a year, and was allowed to apply for reinstatement after a year.  The paperwork took around a year and three months after I applied. I got my license back, but was placed on probation for three years. My case was not reletated to substance abuse. It was due to attempting fraud for lying on an application to the BRN.  From a lot of the cases I read if it was due to substance abuse if you surrender the process can take longer to reinstate the license, but every case is different. Make sure you find out if they have any programs for you before you surrender. Good luck.
