my sister put it this way: "you just know at least one of those kids is gay." imagine the shock when that will be revealed (if that is indeed the case).

i hope none of your sisters children (if she has any) don't turn out to be gay. one never knows what lies ahead of them when they have children and i wouldn't think a child coming out of the closet would change my love for them one bit. imho

Oprah is very irritating. Personally, I am on Oprah overload. She is certainly a great businesswoman, but she is so pompous it is ridiculous. I was at home last week and it was on in the afternoon. She had women who felt better about themselves after one of the queer eye co-hosts showed them women w/ larger backsides. Does this not play into the idea of women feeling good about themselves by putting others down? What were the ladies w/ the super sized behinds supposed to feel like??? Just what we need in this world, more catty female antics.:angryfire

I have always wanted the Discovery Health channel but refused to pay for it. The good news for everyone who is upset about missing Trauma Life in the ER, or Untold Stories of the ER can all be seen on TLC. They even are finally showing Dr G Medical Examiner. Just check out your local TV listings for TLC.

I am not surprised to here Discovery Health is going away I had also heard that was a possibility of TLC and Lifetime because they are not big money makers. I watch a lot on TLC and used to watch more on Lifetime.

I was wondering what was up with that channel! It used to be serious documentary programming but has become DHC Lite. It should be renamed The Multiple Pregnancy Channel.

Multiple pregnancies, obese patients and birth shows, with a few trauma shows thrown in.

I do love the DHC though. I wonder if Oprah will keep the shows on there, or change it?

what she meant by that was, you just know that at least one of the duggar kids is gay. out of that many, chances are that's true, and no matter how much the parents think they can shield them, that's just the way it is and there isn't anything they can do about it.

I can't imagine who watches TLC any more; all I ever see on there is vehicle, house, and person makeovers. How many of those could anyone watch? And the weird thing about Lifetime is that their ratings were much higher when they were anti-man instead of pro-woman.

I love those shows. I never get tired of seeing something ugly become beautiful.

And the weird thing about Lifetime is that their ratings were much higher when they were anti-man instead of pro-woman.

When did Lifetime stop being anti-man?

If there was any justice in the world, ESPN would cease to exist. But there isn't and it's going to be around as well as the aforementioned channels. It's niche programming and that's the way television is nowadays.

They are nuts I understand they are all home schooled. How do they plan to send all those children to college. Are they going to open their own university next?

Really, I think it's just selfish on the part of the parents. How could you even buy them all a new pair of shoes? I don't see how one of them could ever feel special. If I was one of those kids, I'd feel very resentful. But, that's just my opinion!

The can afford it because they are on TV. Seriously though, people used to have very large families before the days of birth control, and I'm not sure kids really felt resentful over it. Nowadays, we tend to assume birth control is something everyone uses rather than acknowledging that it is optional. Some people still choose large families for varying reasons. It's not for me personally, but I don't want to judge those who do. :)

I also don't like the shows about large families and multiple pregnancies. They make it look like the Brady Bunch, where whatever minor problems that come up are easily resolved. They really gloss over serious physical and emotional problems that are common in these situations.

I also prefer the trauma shows. They show real medicine and can be very educational. I'm also sure those would be the ones cut if Oprah took over, based on her history.

Totally OT from the thread ...

I know nothing of the Duggars other than the fact that they are a family of 18. Unusual in this country, and so they are a media curiousity.

But having children is not about buying them new things, and there is no reason that any Duggar child should feel any less special than, for example, my child, who is an only child.

We are so materially-focused in this country.

I am close to a teenage girl who was adopted from an overseas orphanage. She was adopted at the age of 10, old enough to understand that she is "lucky" in the sense of now being blessed with a supportive loving family. But her self-esteem is not any higher now that she is the only child of adoptive parents with her own room and her own possessions than it was when she lived in a group setting where the few toys and educational materials were all shared, as was most clothing.

Thanks for acknowledging that while large families are now less common in the US, that is by choice, and the choice to have a large family is no less valid.

Plenty of serious physical and emotional problems in small families too.
