Is anyone as upset as I am about Oprah taking over Discovery Health to make her own network? It's not happening until late 2009, but I don't know what I am going to do when it is gone.

Really, I think it's just selfish on the part of the parents. How could you even buy them all a new pair of shoes? I don't see how one of them could ever feel special. If I was one of those kids, I'd feel very resentful. But, that's just my opinion!
I've seen, uh, all of the shows that feature the Duggers. I'm an only child so I'm pretty much fascinated by them. They don't get "new" clothes/shoes, the whole family goes to a thrift store on the dollar days once or twice a year and shops. They buy a bunch of plain clothes and shoes on the cheap and everyone is clothed. I have a feeling that the girls sew since they all tend to wear the same style dress in different fabrics over and over.
The kids all seem loved and happy so really, that's all that matters. The older ones come across as sensible and responsible. I seriously doubt any are going to go out and get graduate/PhD's or become incredibly successful but no doubt they'll become productive members of society.
I have what is considered a large family (5 kids), and I homeschool 4 out of the 5. I can't stand people who judge me just because I'm not doing what the majority does. I don't judge other parents that put their kids in daycare or outside school. That is just what they have to do or choose to do. I don't have to buy my children something to make them feel special. When we cook together, do crafts, play sports, or even do laundry it a special bonding time. I do teach them to have values, morals and to respect others. If that makes us weird in other peoples eyes then so be it, but it would be a much better world if all parents did that instead of buying things to make their children feel special.

That is so cool, far out and right on.
This is so sad ! I have spent many evenings unwinding from school watching untold stories of the ER, code blue, etc... I also feel like I retain more seeing things that I have only learned in a classroom so far. This is so frusterating. It is such a great educational tool. Oprah could never compare to Discovery Health :angryfire. I feel like such a nursing geek, but I love watching all of these shows. Unless Oprah plans on doing shows about nurses, healthcare, and aspects of health I will not be watching. Why did she have to ruin this for all of us ? At least by the time she gets her hands on this channel I will be out in the nursing world.
IMHO Oprah is a dangerous individual and if she is planning on keeping her channel health oriented, except it's health according to Oprah and "friends"...well a true waste of a channel it will be. Maybe it can be that nutjob Dr. Phil 24/7...won't that be wonderfully nauseating. Glad I don't waste my money on cable TV.
Have you heard the story about the 8 girls who lured another girl to a house and beat her to within an inch of her life, and taped the whole thing and bragged about it online?
Despite being charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, and a host of other charges AS ADULTS, Dr. Phil bailed them out. I doubt that if 8 boys did something like that, he would have reacted that way.
There went his career imo.

I like looking at Keanadie, the primodial dwarf, also. She is literally adorable!! I am tired of all of the pregnancy and adoptions shows that dominate the morning slots, and having a million kids is getting a bit dry as well. They need more of Mystery Diagnosis, and other health shows.
Hopefully, they will start slotting them in the other discovery channels.
