Is anyone as upset as I am about Oprah taking over Discovery Health to make her own network? It's not happening until late 2009, but I don't know what I am going to do when it is gone.

I hate that there are no good science shows left on TV. (besides NOVA which I record weekly). I remember when regular TLC and Discover used to have cool shows like the operation shows, trauma, random science shows...now it's eiter the tattoo show, motorcycle show or makever shows...sigh . It's not that I absolutely hate those shows, it's just that those kind of semi-reality shows you can see on every other channel.
I used to love watching Discovery health whenever I went over my parents' house (I can't afford all those channels). It was such a treat. I was even OK when they started showing Dr. G on wednesdays on TLC, but now I think I'm going through some kind of withdrawal because even that got replaced with Jon and Kate marathon (btw, I used to love them until they bumped Dr. G....nobody messes with her ) Plus, my boyriend had finally gotten used to some of the more "gruesome" shows and we could watch them together.
I wonder if they sell DVD sets of Dr. G
Have you heard the story about the 8 girls who lured another girl to a house and beat her to within an inch of her life, and taped the whole thing and bragged about it online?Despite being charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, and a host of other charges AS ADULTS, Dr. Phil bailed them out. I doubt that if 8 boys did something like that, he would have reacted that way.
There went his career imo.
His career should have been over when he had that "completely plutonic" relationship with his client; and then there was that little mess where he had to let everyone know about Britney's situation; so is he licensed or isn't he? that is the question
and don't even get me started on his healthy lifestyle kick and how he allegedly ripped that off from a trainer in Dallas without acknowledging the trainer in the least
Really, I think it's just selfish on the part of the parents. How could you even buy them all a new pair of shoes? I don't see how one of them could ever feel special. If I was one of those kids, I'd feel very resentful. But, that's just my opinion!
Thank you. It's like she's not even a person, just a baby factory.
And that woman with the septuplets really made me barf, too. McCollough or whatever, they were on dateline on their birthday every year for awhile. I loved how she attributed her litter of babies to "God". No, honey, fertility drugs did that. Also, they all have or had learning disabilities, CP, and all manner of things. Hello, the human body is not meant to have herds of babies in your uterus. Irresponsible people!
Breeding should require a license and IQ test.
I think the comment about the Duggers having a gay child was pretty darn funny, myself.
Not because of any reason other than - the family is extremely fundemental (hey, I watched one show, but I was up all night breastfeeding and so can be forgiven for my lack of taste in programming!) Statistically, they'll probably have a gay kid.
That kid will probably be awesome. Or not. =) They seem like nice people, good parents, whatever.
But a TV show because a woman choses to be either pregnant, lactating or...um, pregnant?
Hmmm.... well, I don't TIVO it.
I used to like Oprah before I heard in newspaper article what she believed, on how people get to heaven. I want everyone to know I believe she is entitled to her beliefs before I continue.
The article in question quoted Oprah stating "I believe you get to heaven or a higher place by being a good person".:nono:
I don't know about you all, but there is only one belief I have about getting to heaven, and that is believing Jesus Christ came to this earth and died on a cross for my sins:saint:. The bible is very explicit on directions on how to get to heaven. I think Oprah needs to buy a copy. She could possibly pay enough to get a picture of herself on it, I'm sure. But, if the content stays the same, I'm sure she could learn a thing or two.
I will continue to pray that she finds the joy of inviting Jesus into her Heart.
to inspire and entertain, empowering viewers around the world to live their best lives, and by doing so, lift the lives of those around them in ever-widening circles."
Hah! Sounds like we will be seeing even more multiple pregnancy programs on the oprah health channel thank on DHC.
The thought of Oprah having editorial control over a channel with even a modest pretension to scientific rationalism makes this viewer reach for an emesis basin.
I am told that Oprah regularly has a doctor as a guest that advises her viewers that shape, frequency, and density of their stool can reveal a multitude of information about their health.
And let us not forget that Oprah had the daylights sued out of her for suggesting that US beef placed consumers at risk of CJD.

And the good doc had signed them to appear only on his show. Until the news broke about the bail. Now they have been cancelled. I loved what one of the Mother's said "I hate the net". My question, what the heck was your child doing on the net that she ganged up with five of her friends to beat up another girl, video it, and place it on the net? Where were you lady? My grandchildren, including the almost seventeen year old, have access only via their parents computor. And only when their parents are around to monitor them. Use to be the TV was the fsamily babysitter, now it is the net.
