Bye Bye Discovery Health

Published

Is anyone as upset as I am about Oprah taking over Discovery Health to make her own network? It's not happening until late 2009, but I don't know what I am going to do when it is gone. :crying2:

If she takes away my Mystery Diagnosis we're going to have to throw down. Seriously.

Why is she so creepy and megalomaniacal? The funny thing is Dr. Oz is on staff at the hospital system where I work, and he used to be very, very well respected. He actually did my grandfather's heart surgery, bc my grandfather worked for the family the hospital is named after. Now he's a joke up here. All the doctors just make fun of him constantly. The fact that he wears OR scrubs on Oprah's show? Come ON.

That's funny. How often does he work at the hospital these days?! It seems he's always in Chicago.

I don't think he's here much. He's on the adult side, so I wouldn't ever see him anyway. I know that a friend of my grandparents, who also had him do one of his surgeries, said he'd never go to him again after all the Oprah stuff. So it's not just the respect of medical field colleagues that he's losing.

Aww I love Oprah but she better not take "Dr. G Medical Examiner" off the air or will be highly upset it's my favorite show :)

Exactly...or any of the medical mystery shows. I love Dr. G and Untold Stories of the ER.

I thought she already had a network--Oxygen? I may be wrong. I haven't watched an episode of Oprah since 1992. It cuts into my afternoon court shows.

I would be much happier with a network run by Judge Judy :lol2:

All hail Oprah the Omnipotent.....

Seriously, Shows like Dr. G will probably be migrated over to TLC or Discovery proper.

Don't know why but haven't watched that channel as much as I thought I would. When I didn't have it I felt deprived but now I don't watch it. They did have that terrific three part special about nurses several years ago but nothing that interested me lately.

I like the shows that will be airing after Oprah takes over. However I like the shows that are currently on DH even better.

Why change a good thing? It is educational and entertaining. We already have tons of family channels.

I will miss it. DH was the one channel I watched regularly and it was a part of my decision to become a nurse.

C'est la vie.

Good riddance! Hopefully Oprah can improve the quality of the shows they show on that network. There are only so many shows about babies and pregnancy that anyone can stand. They also do a lot of shows that are extremely exploitative under the guise of "educational" like the shows about obese people. Good luck Oprah.

That sucks. I'm about sick to death of Oprah.

Having said that though, I really haven't been watching DHC that much lately anyways; not nearly as much as I used to. My favorite show on there is "Mystery Diagnosis" but there are rarely ever any new ones.
